Betsy’s Philanthropy Work-Financial Giving Betsy is among the USA philanthropists I know. I would argue that these philanthropic deeds are due to her affluent family, and her passion to change the education system. She donates finances towards reforming the education sector and even political campaigns. Her philanthropy started after the realization that not all children in America have the right to quality educational, and most parents could not choose where to school their kids. It’s from this point that Dick and Betsy Foundation started, and low income parents received scholarships for their children.

Pilate Dead is the sister of Macon Jr. and the Aunt of Milkman. Throughout Song of Solomon Pilate is shown as being a down to earth and caring woman who is righteous in her actions and in her beliefs. Following the death of their father, Pilate and Macon chose to “continue” the legacy of their father in drastically different ways, Macon chose to honor his father by striving to accumulate money, this would lead to a horrible disconnect between him and his wife and son. Whereas Pilate honors her father by being a down to earth woman, who wants to continue her father’s legacy of love and wholesome values. Pilate’s name is also ironic in a biblical sense and a literal sense.
In Dwight Okita's story we see the openness and acceptance of her way of life from her parents to live the life of this new land. In Cisneros' story we see the direct opposition of her lifestyle by the grandmother. Overall we see in both stories we see that no matter your country of origin we will all face adversity from others to be accepted as americans and no matter these struggles nothing can stop one from being what they choose to be in life. The two narrators show innocence and compassion for their ways of life despite the opposition of the US government in Okita's story and the grandmother in Cisneros'
