Ms. Cardiello is a 40 year old individual, who was born in Manhattan and raised in Franklin Square. She graduated from a joint high school, Carey and Sewanhaka high school in 1992. She continued her education at Nassau Community College where she obtained an Associate in Liberal Arts. She indicated following her degree from Nassau she received an academic scholarship to Dowling College where she graduated in 1996 with a degree in psychology and a teaching certification. She indicated that she has not had a stable work because she has been in court for many years and it has affected her ability to work full time. Ms. Cardiello reported that currently working full time at a parochial school as a kindergarten teacher.
Selena Quintanilla Perez was an idol in the Mexican American world. She was an empowering and was about to become for famous in the United States but was tragically shot before it could happen. The person who was accused of First-Degree murder was a woman called Yolanda Saldivar. Saldivar is the founder and president of the Selena Fan club and the manager of one of Selena’s boutiques. In early March of 1995, there was a meeting between Selena, Saldivar, and Selena’s family about a money situation. They noticed that money was missing from the boutique and they knew that Saldivar took the money. Later that month, Selena went to meet Saldivar at a hotel because she thought Saldivar was going to pay her back the money she owed. When she realized it was a trap, it was too late. Employees noticed Selena running away but was fatally shot with a bullet that pierced through her lung.
Maria Martinez, also known as Marie or ‘Pond Lily’, was an artist that was world-renowned for her amazing pottery. After her birth in 1884, she lived in the San Ildefonso Pueblo in the Rio Grande Valley of New Mexico. Martinez was a Native American of Tewa heritage. In Pueblo, pottery is seen as a communal and common activity and this is how Martinez picked this skill up. By the time she was an adult, she met her husband, Julian. While he worked as a janitor at the Museum of Santa Fe, he and Maria would study pieces of pottery within the glass cases. This gave the couple their inspiration for the several pieces they made together over the years, up until Julian’s death.
Hispanic, thirty-eight year old, Anna Garcia expired due to a stroke. At one point in Anna Garcia's life she was diagnosed with type one diabetes. Due to the potential for high blood glucose levels, diabetes itself is a risk factor for stroke. Anna Garcia’s cardiologist had Anna complete cardiac testing. Anna underwent a treadmill stress test. Drastic increases in blood pressure occurred for the patients during the test. Also, a few premature ventricular contractions, which are heartbeats that start in one of the heart’s two lower chambers, were noted during the test. The saying “the pen is mightier than the sword” is widely known and referenced. However, contrary to popular belief, actions may speak louder than words. This rings true in the case of Michelle Carter, this specific case has been a reoccurring debate, in terms of whether Michelle Carter should be found guilty or not guilty for the death of her boyfriend, Conrad Roy III. While those in favor of her being found guilty seek imprisonment, others, like the opposing side, seek to have her let off due to the situation not being entirely her fault.
As I read the case study of Almeada and baby Anne, I was inspired by her case manager Barbra LaRosa, she provided social care and became the “bridge” between Almeade and the systems. One function of bridging is to narrow the gap between the services being offered and the needs of the individuals who are receiving those services. (Woodside, M. R. (2015). An Introduction to the Human Services, 8th Edition) Ms. LaRosa applied social care to Almeada while she was pregnant with baby Anne, she recognized Almeada's problems in living and since she worked at the school, and Almeada had not returned from summer break, she reached out to her to see what was going on and learn more about her life. Enrique’s Journey by Sonia Nazario tells of a perseverant Honduran mother by the name of Lourdes. She comes to the United States in hopes of landing a job, so that she may send money home to her children in Honduras. Lourdes’s determination pays off and she is hired at many domestic jobs, such as babysitting and house cleaning. Although she is now able to send adequate support to her children, her absence consequently causes emotional turmoil. Enrique yearns for his mother, to the point where he is willing to risk his life to be with her. His quest to reunite with his mom is filled with a multitude of obstacles ; nevertheless through the kindness of strangers and smugglers, Enrique’s dream becomes a reality. Everyone needs someone to help them pick up their broken pieces at least one point in their life.
Linda Viera Caballero, better known as La India, is a one of the best singer-songwriters in the latin music industry. Born on March 9, 1969, in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico, La India was raised in the South Bronx area of New York City. Her parents left Puerto Rico soon after she was born and they moved in with her grandmother.

On top of her career, she had respect, and was admired as a great role model by Mexican Americans. The “Queen of Tejano” music, her contributions to music and fashion made her one of the most celebrated Mexican-American entertainers of the late 20th century. Billboard magazine named her the “Top Latin Artist of the 90s” and then “Best Selling Latin Artist of the decade”. Selena ranks among the most influential Latin artists of all time and is credited for catapulting a music genre into the mainstream market. Even though Selena was murdered, she achieved many great things throughout her lifetime. She is remembered today for her wonderful accomplishments. Selena was one of many Mexican-Americans to achieve crossover success with her music to become a global artist.

She was an average student making A’s, B’s, and C’s. She considered herself a social butterfly and was very social in high school. She maintained a positive group of friends.
