Maersk Line Section 1 Background Initially AP Moller Maersk Group was the shipping company name Dampskibsselskabet Svendborg, founded by AP Moller in Svenborg, 1904. AP Moller had four children, one of whom was the famous magnate known as Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller. He became a partner in the company in 1939. During World War II, after Germany has invaded Denmark, Mr. Maersk Mc-Kinney Moeller was forced to relocate to New York in order to lead Maersk operations there. Later, he set up a legal entity in the U.S. in case he had to flee Denmark once again. In 1947, after the war ended, he created an American corporation based in Delaware known as Maersk Line, Limited (MLL).
