On July 15th, 2008, Caylee Marie Anthony, two-years-old, was reported missing by her maternal grandmother, Cynthia Anthony. The main one was where Caylee’s body was found. Her body was found in the woods near the Anthony house on December 11th, 2008 by a utility worker. Caylee’s body was stuffed inside multiple layers of bags with duct tape wrapped three times around her head covering her nose and mouth at the same time. After the months of her being missing, the bags were ripped and her “body was pulled apart and dragged by animals to other spots nearby” (4). After the months of being in the woods, Caylee’s body had foliage growing through it, keeping some of the bones together. A second crime scene was Casey Anthony’s car. The theory that investigators had was that Casey Anthony stored her daughter in the trunk of her car after subduing her with chloroform. It was not determined how long Caylee was stored in the trunk. It was known that Cynthia Anthony originally stated during one of the multiple 9-1-1 calls she made, “I found my daughter’s car today and it smelled like there’s been a dead body in the damn car.” (5). This statement from Cynthia was later retracted. The last scene was Cynthia and George Anthony’s backyard. In an original statement, Casey stated that Caylee drowned in the family’s backyard swimming pool. When the police came to investigate, the pool was on the completely opposite side of the backyard. Instead of finding any evidence near the pool, there was a spot near the child play house that the cadaver dogs picked up the scent of
In addition to that, Jim Solomon’s, A spokes person said that a utility person found the body at 9:32 AM in a forest-y area less than 1/2 a mile away from Casey’s household. Sheriff's Office spokesman Jim Solomons said that a utility worker found the body at 9:32 a.m. EST Thursday in a wooded area less than half of a mile from the house Caylee lived in with her grandparents and mother. This meaning, Casey could have easily hid the body after the murder. Lastly, Investigators found duct tape, and suspected Casey killed Caylee by taping over her mouth and nose. Casey is then charged with first degree murder, but was acquitted of them.

Further into the investigation, Casey’s father George had reported that Casey had stolen gas cans out of the shed that was located on her parents’ property, and that she took their vehicle without permission. The gas cans were eventually returned to him by Casey, however, the vehicle was impounded due to being found abandon. The investigation ultimately shifted when it was reported that a foul smell was emanating from the vehicle. An air sample was taken from inside the vehicle and determined the smell resulted from the storage of a decomposed body.

Casey had no other excuses and more evidence began to pile up against her. One of the gas cans stolen had a special kind of duct tape on it which was not found in very many places.
