1. Background
HSBC Holdings Public Limited Company (HSBC) has found in 1865. It is a 150 years British multinational banking and financial services company. Nowadays, HSBC has declined in scale and network. It has gradually laid off 40,000 employees since 2010. Besides, its share price in has been decreased from the highest HKD140 in 2007 to HKD65 now.
In 2007, HSBC announced the first profit warning since 1865. In March, 2009, HSBC sold HSBC Finance Corporation to Santander Group. As the HSBC Finance Corporation mainly provided financing service in USA, the sale caused decrease in market share. Recommendations
Based on the above investigation, a number of suggestions will be provided in connection with identified risks to improve the future development of HSBC. The recommendations focus on company’s investment strategies and managerial capability, which are abovementioned in the purpose of this study. Although the macro-environmental factors are uncontrollable, various measures should still be developed to cope with anticipated changes in business environment. 5. Nature and Limitations
One of the limitations of this study is the inability to obtain first-hand information from the management level of HSBC. The study is conducted mainly based on available second-hand literature and financial information of HSBC. The credibility is therefore reduced as inaccuracy and ambiguity may exist during the investigation of micro factors.
Furthermore, we have only limited resources to conduct this study due to the lack of manpower and funds. A detailed quantitative and qualitative analysis cannot be performed so the result may be less convincing only based on second-hand …show more content…
