Introduction Mobitel commenced operations in 1993 and became a wholly owned subsidiary of SLT in October 2002. Mobile has been a national mobile service provider for over 20 years in Sri Lanka. Mobitel has achieved several milestones over the last 20 years. In January 2004, the company launched its fully-fledged 2.5G GSM network that is EDGE/GPRS enabled and designed to operate on dual band. The 3.5G HSPA network - the first Super 3.5G network in South Asia was launched in 2007. Mobitel will have to contribute 3% of basic salary of the employee on a monthly basis. To the employees ETF fund. The contribution will be available to be withdrawn once in every five years.
