According to the RP the mother would hit Trevor with an open head various places on his head per drawing completed by him. Trevor disclosed that the mother would hit him for being bad, however he could not remember the specifics. Trevor disclosed the latest incident occurred a few weeks ago; however the RP stated he was having difficulties remembering. The frequency of the alleged abuse is unknown. The reporting party (RP) stated on 7/21/15 a probation compliance search was performed on family member Joseph Apodaca Sr. in the family child care home. It was discovered the home was an immediate hazard to children. Present during the search were Elizabeth De La Rosa, Erica De La Rosa, and Citlaly Lopez. Also present were their children Michael Dominguez age 2 DOB 1/20/13, Isabella Garcia age 7 DOB 12/02/14, and Joseph Apodaca Jr age 1 DOB 3/17/14.
On 01/27/16, Lakirah told the reporter that she was whipped by her stepfather the night before and her mother before school today. According to the reporter, Mr. Bryant found a second cell phone Lakirah used to contact her biological father. The reporter stated Mr. Bryant told the child to pull her pants down and begin to beat her with a cow skin leather strap and his fist. The reporter stated Lakirah was hit in the eye with her stepfather’s fist and her left eye is swollen. At around 6:00 AM on the day of her assault, a stranger violently physically attacked her, with both blunt force and with a knife, stabbed her several times, and attempted to sexually assault her, before running off. Andrea suffered several physical injuries, including “a fractured skull, fractured nose, facial lacerations, and multiple stab wounds,” (Butcher, Hooley, & Mineka, 2013, p. 117). Following the incident, and during the assessment, Andrea also presented emotional and mental distressing symptoms.
The first examiner did not review any of the health history of the child. The police department also did not interview the child’s mother. Many acquaintances of the mother were questioned about her mothering during the interview and they all had the same concerns. She had an alcohol problem during which she would often level the child unattended. A live in nanny stated that she left the newborn at home following return from the hospital after birth.

She has been observed grabbing children, shoving them, and "slamming" them down to the ground or onto a napping mat. This same teacher was observed grabbing a child who emptied a box of tissues and forcible take him to the box of tissue in an attempt to humiliate the child. According to the RP Ms. McKnight was observed aggressively grabbing a child by the arm in an attempt to have the child pick up toys. None of the children sustained any injury from these incidents.

When working with children in the school setting you will need to be aware of the different signs that a child may be being abused, the signs may include behavioural and physical changes, although you will need to do your best to make sure the child’s safety is being looked after in your care but you will need to look for possible signs that they are being mistreated while they are not in

At Adult Protective Services majority of our work involves investigation of abuse, neglect, and exploitation. At Adult Protective Services our job is to protect the vulnerable elderly population, as well as the population that have disabilities. “Only APS is statutorily authorized and responsible for investigating elder and vulnerable adult abuse and taking steps to protect the victims, and it is generally only APS that helps the most frail and incapacitated older persons”(Quin, 2012, p.68). When abuse is suspected, a case worker will reach out to all parties involved, such as the alleged victim, alleged perpetrator, and all collaterals. Not only is he employed at the school, he is also adjunct faculty at the University of North Carolina- Pembroke. Dr. Small has worked with children in the educational setting thirty-three years; the initial ten were spent teaching, when he obtained his doctoral level degree he shifted into the counseling spectrum; still within the schools. Though he has spent a majority of his time in the school setting, Dr. Small, did experience the in a clinical setting while completing his degree.
