Summary Laura Worthen is a wonderful small business owner. She owns a small business named Shirts Galore and more, which is the number one customized shirt business in Granite City for the last fourteen years. Laura was running an in home day care for seventeen years before she decided it was time for a change. Laura and her husband bought a machine to embroider out of their basement. While she started her business she was working a full time job during the day then embroidered and screen printed at night. Laura started her business without researching about the company. She knew it was a need in Granite City because there was only one custom shirt shop and not many people be happy with the shop because they were very high priced for the product they were receiving so she knew it was a good market for her to enter. I asked her what she thought was the advantages and disadvantages are of owning her own business which she says the advantage was she was her own boss but the disadvantage was she didn’t look into the future about who or how she was going to manage the employees. The challenges Laura brought up were hiring nonfamily members and to be able to trust them, also taking the time away from the business because a lot of small business owners take things home with them. Laura was wonderful and was willing to take the time out of her schedule to let me interview her. The week I interviewed her she was designing and screen printing all the shirts for Granite City’s kid’s baseball parade which she was designing the shirts as we were doing the interview. Even though she was busy, she answered my interview questions and in-depth as she felt was needed, she had a few things she didn’t really want to discuss such as selling the business which I didn’t push her to
