In July of 2008, a woman named Cindy Anthony reported that her granddaughter, Caylee Anthony, had not been seen in over a month. The toddler lived with Cindy and her husband, George, as well as the toddler’s mother, Casey. More shockingly, Cindy reported that a pungent odor was coming from her daughter Casey’s car, a smell that was strangely similar to that of a decomposing body (Neubauer 24). Six months after this report was made, Caylee’s remains were found just blocks from the family’s home in Orlando, Florida. The main suspect was her mother: Casey Anthony. After weeks of trial, and over four hundred pieces of evidence presented, Casey Anthony was acquitted. She was found guilty of four misdemeanor crimes, including giving false information and neglect (Neubauer 10). This verdict left the nation in shock. With that much evidence, how was Anthony not accused of murdering her two-year-old daughter? Many of the key pieces of evidence presented at the month long trial included: duct tape found with the body, the odor coming from Casey Anthony’s car, a hair found in the back of Anthony’s car, as well as Anthony’s lies and …show more content…
Body sniffing dogs were brought to the car, and allegedly indicated that there indeed was a body in the trunk of the car. However, at first, Anthony’s lawyers argued that this technique was merely “junk science” (Jean). Then, they refuted the idea that the air from the trunk of the car was able to be bottled up and tested. Allegedly, a forensic anthropologist was able to use his method of “human decomposition odor analysis” to confirm that 79.2% of the gasses that were found in the car matched with that of a decomposing human body (Shelton 420). His information also was not backed by a method that Florida, as a state, agreed was scientifically valid. This misinformation was part of the reason that Anthony was
When the police were called to Andrea Yates suburban Hudson Texas home in June 20th 2001 they were not prepared for what they were about to see. The police were shocked to see Andreas five children dead while Andrea acted completely calm and admitted to drowning them one by one in the family bath tub. Andrea had previous mental health issues which she had been hospitalized including suicide attempts. She had been suffering with very sever postpartum depression and post part partum psychosis, two illnesses that would make Andrea very dangerous to herself and those around her, especially her children. Andrea went to trial against the Harris County Texas District Attorney who were convicting her of capital murder and asking for the death penalty,
Casey Anthony was one of the only things people could talk about in 2008. Casey Anthony blew the news up about the killing of her daughter, the case lasted for about three years before the court finally reached a non- guilty verdict. The media and people all around America continued to speculate on reasons why they thought the verdict should have been guilty. After examining the case, two theories connect to the case. Casey Anthony has allowed me to further explore and examine all the theories so that I could explain the reasoning behind Anthony’s actions.
The murderer used chloroform and duct tape to suffocate the 2 year old toddler. And disposed the body in a black trash bag and placed in a forest wooded area. Found within walking distance from the Anthony residence. This can resonate to a conspiracy theory. With all of the facts and research the researchers came up with it is clear that the justice system has failed Caylee Anthony.
Another good, possible piece of evidence was the duct-tape found on scene where Caylee’s body was found. Crime Museum said that the duct tape was used to murder Caylee with
On Dec. 8, 2011 Caylee’s remains were found beside a road near Casey Anthony’s house(wftv.com). On the skull there was still tissue which confirmed that it was Caylee. Duct tape with Caylee’s hair on it was also found, possibly on the skull(wftv.com). There was no fingerprints on the duct tape because it had been sitting outside exposed to the elements for so long that any oils from the fingerprint would have been long washed away. The duct tape was also said to have a heart sticker belonging to Caylee on it, which would have disproved the defense's claim that the duct tape was staged but the sticker was not found.
USA TODAY published an article “Casey Anthony breaks her silence: I sleep pretty good at night.” Anthony did an interview with Associated Press speaking about the case and her daughter’s death for the first time. The Associated Press said that the interview with Anthony was “revealing, bizarre and often contradictory, and ultimately raised more question than answers about the case.” In the interview with Associated Press, Anthony admitted to lying to the police about a number of things such as her employment, leaving her child with a babysitter, and receiving a call from Caylee before she went missing. During the trial, the defense stated that Caylee had drown in the pool and then Casey Anthony’s father tried to cover up the accident.
However, there no a sufficient evidence to prove that Casey Anthony and her parents know exactly how Caylee died. Caylee's remains were discovered less than half a mile from the Anthony residence with two trash bags, a laundry bag, a blanket, and pieces of clothing showing defects consistent with decomposition (Garavaglia et al., 2008). In this controversial case, there are some patterns that can lead to false child abduction homicides. In a study by Canning and colleagues (2011), many offenders who were involved in child homicides and later reported false abductions were biological parents, with mothers being the most common offenders. In this case after Casey been exonerated the question remain Who killed Caylee
In the Casey Anthony trial, a controversial piece of evidence had been brought up about whether or not the “smell of death” from the trunk of Casey’s car can be linked to and used as evidence in the death of her daughter, Caylee Anthony. The smell that was in the trunk of Casey’s car could have been used as evidence in the trial. Why? Because it would have proven that, her daughter Caylee decomposed body was in the trunk of the car.
They believed this right from the beginning of the trial without looking closer at the evidence. These boys were found as guilty until better technology and better professors got involved that influenced thousands of people that the three boys were actually innocent. During the Casey Anthony trial the media and people in the society were angered about the murder case and were against her, but there were also many people that believed she never did such a thing. In the end, Anthony was found
The defense attorney claimed that Anthony and her father tried to cover up the death. A forensic expert is brought in and testifies that there must have been a decomposing body in Anthony’s car trunk because that was the only plausible explanation for the odor in the car trunk. Casey Anthony did not testify during the whole court process. The jury deliberated for almost eleven hours and their verdict for Anthony was that she was not of first-degree murder, aggravated child abuse and aggravated manslaughter of a child. She was found guilty of four counts of providing false information to law enforcement.
The trial of Casey Anthony was one that struck the nation in a very emotional manner. The trial was on TV for months before anyone could come out with any real answers, and even then, they weren’t the answers they were looking for, and half of them were made up. In the end the jury decided to find her not guilty, while everyone else’s opinion was that she was a cold blooded killer. Unfortunately the proper evidence just wasn’t there in the end to convict her for the first degree murder of her 2 year old daughter Caylee. This being said, if I was on the jury I would definitely have found her guilty because of the, in my opinion, extremely odd behavior that came from Casey during the entire process.

When seeking information on the trial, information is commonly presented with a dramatic and media based view of the case, rather than evidence that revealed the problems that the prosecution had with its case, like the lack of an established motive. In acquitting Anthony, the jury made the right call. The Casey Anthony trial offered little to no evidence pointing to Casey Anthony. It provided neither justice nor clarity. For 33 days, defense and prosecutors attorneys battled over evidence in the trial.
She was seen clubbing and showed no signs she was concerned about her daughter’s death or disappearance. Casey’s farther also testified against her because he had gas cans that had turned up missing and Casey had taken the gas cans because her and her boyfriend admitted to stealing them from his shed. George, Casey’s father, also mentioned there was a certain kind of duct tape that was placed on one of the cans, which did not return on the can. Apparently that was the duct tape that appears with the remains of Caylee’s body (“Casey Anthony Trial”). After thirty three days of testimony and four hundred pieces of evidence, and a day of discussing the situations, the jury had come to a verdict.
In this case the only obstacle the prosecutors had was prove that Caylee Anthony was murdered by her own mother, they had to prove beyond reasonable doubt to the jury that she was behind her daughter’s death. Most of the evidence that was presented was in fact pointed to Casey Anthony as the person who was fully liable for her daughter
