Attitude is an aspect in co-workers that can be influenced more directly that values and emotions. Attitudes, values and emotions all work together to influence workplace behavior, satisfaction, and commitment; furthermore attitude can be positively or negatively influenced to a greater degree than values and emotions. Values and emotions are internal attributes that are shaped within a person over time by their experiences. Attitude is a choice that can be changed. Psalm 188:24 gives us guidance and a choice regarding our attitude: “This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it (ESV).” We are shown that today is from the Lord, it is therefore a good day, and we are encouraged to make a choice to rejoice and be glad. …show more content…
The Pike Place Fish Market has become “world famous” through their shift in attitude, people come from all over the word to experience the “attitude” of the employees and the customer oriented environment. The Pike Place Fish Market purposefully and intentionally influences the attitude of their employees. In Catch! : A Fishmonger's Guide to Greatness, it is explained that “When a new fishmonger is hired, inviting them to learn the mental as well as physical aspects is a much more powerful approach than imposing, or forcing them to commit to, something they may not believe (Laurin, C., & World Famous Pike Place Fish, 2004, p. 23)” Rather than imposing values and emotions on employees, this organization has become “world famous” by affecting the attitudes of their employees. Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.” When we internalize that we are instructed to do nothing from self ambition, our co-workers will see this reflected in our attitude. A person that works a forty hour work week has a great deal of influence within the lives of their co--workers. Madlock and B00th-Butterfield (2012) point out that co-workers have become a form of surrogate family solely based on the amount of time spent at work; accordingly co-workers inherently influence our attitudes as they are the basis for many of our values and emotions. We do not have control over others emotions and values, we do have control over are reactions to those; our attitude, our reaction to others and situations is under our control. Our perception of job satisfaction is a combination of factors as defined by Phillips and Gully as “the work itself, attitudes, values and personality.” At Pike Place Fish Market, attitude is given as a choice; a decisively positive attitude will by nature impact co-workers as demonstrated.
Your Inner Fish essay In Neil Shubin’s Your Inner Fish, he takes his readers on a journey throughout time, teaching how marine animals inevitably ended up on land. Shubin starts his book by describing how himself and other paleontologists found a missing piece, that showed how animals transitioned from water to land. With this discovery it allowed paleontologists like Shubin, to see transitions that could possibly link certain species of fish to humans. A major change between fish and humans is the use of limbs and its ability to use its limbs to take itself out of the water and away from the dangers within.

Tokumitsu’s article shows that she is very passionate about this subject, which could be that she is writing from her own experiences within the workforce and this helps make the reading more powerful. The constant battle for love in your labor can divide companies, but examining drive will determine getting what needs to be done or not. Using this knowledge is our future, hope, and way out of the zombified, DWYL motto. Always remember, do as much as you can! Works Cited Stanny, B. (2018).
Organisational values can be described as a “belief that a specific mode of conduct is preferable to an opposite or contrary mode of conduct” (Rokeach, 1973). Some organisations describe them as their ‘guiding beacons’ whilst others describe them as part of their philosophy. As Diageo explains ‘Our values are not just words on a page – they are in our DNA. They underpin everything we do and are reflected in the day-to-day behaviour of the company.’ –
As stated in point one what you do not value you will not make time for. To value is to put a standard on something that is not up for debate. You must first shift your perspectives in knowing that you are a priority. If you do not invest in yourself you are no good to anything or anyone else. Just as we set boundaries for our work place and relationships we have to set boundaries for with our other roles when it comes to taking the needed time out to just REST (breath, think, regroup and
If employees are not familiar with the company’s goals and what the company is expect from them they won’t be able to perform good. Successful organizational culture requires a team work. Oddly, in our society, we have associated low-quality workers with low-quality food? In his article “Working at Wendy’s” Joey Franklin paves the road towards a new perspective about those who come to work at Wendy’s. Instead of explicit points and unshakable statistics, and powerful calls to action, Franklin alternatively leads gently us through a process of revelation. Drawing from his own experiences working at
In addition, employees who experience more positive emotions at work make greater contributions to organizational effectiveness and, when people are in a good mood, they are more sociable, less aggressive, and better able to recall positive information (Pinder, 1998). Also, those employees who are more positive possess higher confidence, optimism, self-efficacy, likability, and sociability, which in turn, making them more satisfied with their job and increases workplace achievement (Lyubormirsky, King, & Diner, 2005). Happy employees bring their happiness from the office to their home and they also transfer their happiness from their home to the office (Lyubormirsky et. al,

This has been enhanced by the solicitation of new ideas into the system and incorporating internal suggestions from employees into policy and procedure creation. The effective strategy this company has employed is directly reflective of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. In this theory, it is stated that human beings are motivated by ever more abstract conceptions of ‘needs’. By providing the same basic ‘physiological’ needs as other employers but also adding higher motivational levels; such as esteem and self-actualization through promotions and employee recognition; and a sense of comradery a ‘belongingness need’ Chipotle has created a
