Concussions are the number one injury caused when playing football at any level today, but yet people still decide to play the game. Concussions can leave a big impact on your life after football, even if you are a younger player in high school. An article from “Frontline Magazine” states that, “an estimated high school football player suffered 11.2 concussions for every 10,000 games and practices. Among college players, the concussion rate stood at 6.3 out of 10,000 games and practices.” Concussions are a bigger issue than people believe and something needs to be done to help protect the players of the game. Concussions are usually worse at a younger age, because the player does not want to let any of his teammates, family, or coaches down by quitting the game. Therefore, the player keeps playing, even if he suspects that he has a concussion or some other type of head injury. This is also why it is hard for experts to document just how many concussions are received each year, because not all of them are reported. He was a high school star with college offers from all across the map. Then one day he thought about the side effects of injuries from playing football over a long period of time, concussions being one of them. He was actually one of those players who were not warned about concussions and their effects. Castello also experienced a head injury during a game, and his coach told him to shake it off and go back into the game, without being evaluated by a medical trainer. Castello has realized the side effects before it was too late, thankfully. He quit football and instead plays basketball now in college. He gave up his football dream, to hopefully live without the side effects of more head injuries while playing the game.
