The U.S. has the strongest and most advance military in the world. The U.S. military did not get that title through careless selection of innovations and inventions. The military got that title because it knew a good advantage when found. Today, an advantage has been found and it comes in the form of a plane with no man in it. It is called an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), now do not be mistaken there is always a person controlling the aircraft. These UAVs are commonly known as drones and they should be used in the military. Drones should be used in the military because they cost a fraction of the price as normal manned aircraft. They also save lives, are accurate when given a target, and will impact the military in a positive way.
Other than winning, the most important part of war is saving, and

As president Obama stated at the National Defense University, “...our actions are effective. Don’t take my word for it. In the intelligence gathered at Bin Laden’s compound, we found that he wrote, “We could lose the reserves to enemy’s air strikes. We cannot fight air strikes with explosives.” Other communications from al Qaeda operatives confirm this as well. Dozens of highly skilled al Qaeda commanders, trainers, bomb makers and operatives have been taken off the battlefield. Plots have been disrupted that would have targeted international aviation, U.S. transit systems, European cities and our troops in Afghanistan. Simply put, these strikes have saved lives”. If that is not enough proof that drones have help the U.S. immensely in its war on terror then David Rohde’s, who was a prisoner of the Taliban, comment of how drones are a “terrifying presence” for militants along with the fact that Hakimullah mehsud, previous leader of the Taliban, was killed by a drone should be more than enough evidence that the drones are accomplishing their
As the leader of Al-Qaeda, Bin Laden planned many terrorist attacks on several different nations for the soul purpose of killing innocent people. For example, Bin Laden’s most infamous plot was the attack on September 11th, 2001. As a result, about three thousand innocent Americans lost their lives (Bergen 1). In addition to 9/11, Bin Laden also planned terrorist attacks that killed hundreds of people in Kenya, Indonesia, Spain, Great Britain, and on the U.S.S. Cole, a United States destroyer (Time Magazine 1). The attack on the U.S.S. Cole not only killed innocent people, but those people were American military personnel.
They can drop troops off in a specific area, scout areas in a larger range, and can now drop bombs. The War on Terror is not really a direct fight. It is more of a strategy fight. There are not that many ground troops anymore, and consists more of bombing with
US NEWS informs us, “Drones in Seattle and Miami are equipped with video cameras capable of taking daytime and nighttime video, as are drones used by the Texas Department of Public Safety.” In 1989 Supreme Court decision ruled that police may use helicopters to peer into semiprivate areas including the backyard of a house without first obtaining a warrant. The Congressional Research Service furthermore states “The legal issues discussed in this report will likely remain unresolved until the civilian use of drones becomes more widespread”. The fourth amendment prohibits any search and seizures without a warrant.
The US also has been developing other technologies to add on to their armored machines. The United States also demonstrates its power at sea. Its most fearsome weapon is the aircraft carrier. In total, the US, “has 10 aircraft carriers… [The rest of the world has 10 [combined].”(Kearns).
Our Innocent Lives At Stake A drone strike can kill a person in one room of a house, also people in the room next door, to even across the street like a school. There has been cases where the drones have had civilians attacked while along the intended target. These were all unplanned deaths, all innocent deaths. I oppose the use of drones in warfare. From all the drone strikes killing innocent people or putting their lives at stake and ours, is a horrendous movement, that’s why in my opinion I think we shouldn’t have drones.
Drones kill fewer civilians than any other military weapon but drone strikes target individuals who may not be terrorists or enemy combatants and drone strikes mostly kill low-value targets who are not significant threats to US safety and security. Even with the copious amounts of surveillance conducted on these individuals that are possibly terrotists, the drone attacks on them do not seem justified because of the lack of physical evidence that these individuals were a threat to the United states or to any country. Although drone strikes are legal in the United States and are subject to a strict review process and congressional oversight, drone strikes violate international law. Massive surveillance industrial complex post 9/11, has had many negative and positive effects through out the past decade. The meaning of our laws and policies have not been able to keep pace with the advances in technology or the development of surveillance as a whole.
America underestimated the power of Al Qaeda, just like we underestimated the Japanese. America has grown stronger, and continues to focus of growing and making a more efficient era for future Americans, but one thing is certain, and that is don’t come knocking on Americas door without expecting
Byman also makes the point that the drones have done a great job in devastating al Qaeda and other anti- American militant groups. The drones have also accomplished this task with little financial cost compared to sending in troops on the ground, and with fewer civilian casualties than any other
A rising contempt for America makes it easier for terrorists to find new recruits to use against American armies. In fact, Stern says, “The use of drones to target suspected al Qaeda operatives in Yemen has been correlated with a rapid growth in membership in the group’s Yemen-based affiliate” (“Obama And Terrorism”, 3). The use of drones mainly end with a continuous circle of death and
However, Americas counter terrorism policy has given Al Qaeda hope for short term and if we continue that Policy, it may well assist them in their ultimate goal of establishing a hegemonic caliphate in the Muslim world"(Smith). The counter Terrorism Policy is giving Al Qaeda extra time to plan an attack. People are saying that the counter terrorism policy is helping the U.S., but it 's really not. "In fact there have been more terrorist attacks worldwide in the four years since September eleventh than in the four years prior"(Meehan). Which means, The U.S. Policy has just made terrorism worse.
The first attempt and success to climb Mt. Everest occured in 1953. Since then, almost 4,000 people have been able to scale the mountain, but over 230 people have not been able to climb it successfully. There is a chance of accident or death when climbing this mountain or any dangerous activity. All people should should have the right to rescue services even if they knowingly put themselves at risk because there is always a chance of an accident happening, rangers are there to save people in danger, and there are rescue vehicles being produced to be used in case of an emergency.
Drones, because they don’t have a pilot on board, don’t require cockpits, or pilot safety systems. Drones can also stay in the air longer than many other aircraft. They also tend to shoot targets more accurately than an aircraft piloted by a human onboard. Drones can carry out dangerous reconnaissance missions, because they have no pilot to put into potential
The domestic use of drones by the government has increased over the years. Unfortunately drone surveillance use remain unregulated due to slim privacy and civil liberty restrictions at federal level. With the advancement of surveillance technologies, drones will be used to track our every move violating our privacy. New drone systems such as the ARGUS-IS (Autonomous Real-time Ground Ubiquitous Surveillance Imaging System) are being equipped with five-megapixel smartphone camera sensors. Yiannis Antoniades, an engineer who developed ARGUS-IS, stated “You can see individuals crossing the street.
When we think about drone or UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle), first thing comes to our mind is; frightening, alien looking unmanned aircraft that has been involved with so many bombings and targeted killings. In “Drone Home: What Happens When Drones Return to America”, from Time, Lev Grossman wrote drones are dreaded all around the globe, and possibly they have gotten this fear through the United States Military. Drone technology has been greatly improved last decade, now third of entire Air Force’s fleet is unmanned. U.S Government is sending drones to many war zones to eliminate high-ranking enemies or do surveillance successfully. Even though this rapidly growing technology is changing our perspective of war, it also changing our everyday life drastically to help our community.
Qaddafi and Anwar are just two examples that drones have helped for the better of the U.S. In August 2009 Taliban leader Baltullah Mehsud’s death was announced, a missile shot from an unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV) was responsible. Six years later, the U.S. Air Force is saying that the unmanned combat missions have increased by 600%. To protect human lives, Cummings said, “I would rather send a bunch of robots to do a mine-sweeping mission, possibly with human oversight several miles away” (Tucker,
