INTRODUCTION Stress is a word derived from Latin word “Stingere” meaning to draw tight. (Mojoyinola, 2008) Stress is your body’s way of responding to any kind of demand or threat. When you feel threatened, your nervous system responds by releasing a flood of stress hormones, and including adrenaline and cortisol, which rouse the body for emergency action. Your heart pounds faster, muscles tighten, blood pressure rises, breath quickens, and your senses become sharper. These physical changes increase your strength and stamina, speed your reaction time, and enhance your focus.
During the next couple of months many people died due to the violence that was going on in this strike. The Pullman strike soon became a nationwide railroad strike in the United States. Since many people lost their jobs after the depression, they had to go try to find a new job which was not easy under the conditions of a strike. When they found a job, many took a huge pay cut often receiving thirty percent less of what they were making before the strike. The Pullman Strike also had an impact on transporting people and goods.
Fear in its most devastating form is present in major incidents where hundreds of people share a common fate. Hurricanes, earthquakes, floods and famines take thousands of lives and place people in a state of fear for months. The passengers on the Titanic and those involved in major air crashes are stricken suddenly with fear. Moreover to the physical stress of working longer hours, there are also environmental reasons of pressure. These include extreme noise, a non-supportive administration, unfair rating procedures, failure to receive acknowledgement and unsafe working conditions. Also there are psychological causes of pressure in the workplace, such as encounters between employees, communication difficulties, lost sense of purpose, feelings of being overawed and fatigue. Remarks or behaviors which deny employees’ contributions, degrade them personally, or interfere with their ability to function as individuals may start the cycle of despair or violence (Gerson, A., 1993). Additional sources of job-related stress include uncertain job expectations and descriptions; short closing date and consistent “fire drills”; responsibility but no decision-making authority; routine, dull jobs with no room for creativity; and last but not least, the “isms” – racism, sexism, and ageism (Evans, T., 1990).
Additionally, an organizational change is a factor that she has no control of. Stress due to physical work condition such as noise and temperature, can also affect employee’s tasks. Certain level of noise can negatively effect someone’s ability to focus or concentrate. Therefore, a decrease in job performance creates more stress. Temperature is another work environment that is negatively affecting employees job performance.

My reasons of competitive sports being bad are that it can take up the participants time and it can pressure or overwhelm them in a sense of them being stressed. Workplace bullying is becoming more and more frequent within a workplace. It’s described as insensitive and repeated abuse of people by their superiors, co-workers and subordinates. Often supervisors are branded as being the person to do the bullying, to subordinates within the workplace. Bullying can be labeled as a form of violence, which crosses boundaries of gender, race and organizational rank. Workplace bullying has increased over the last decade within the United States.
