Troublesome in Toronto, Congestion
Toronto is still struggling from congestion. It is unsolved problem to Torontonians. According to the Toronto Foundation Vital Signs Reports (2015), Torontonians waste 87 hours a year on the stuck road due to congestion. They waste their times on the road without knowing what is happening there. The interesting fact about congestion is that it is not a new problem. It existed in Ancient Rome, eighteenth century London, and nineteenth century New York. It reveals congestion has existed with human beings in urban centers for a long time. Moreover, it has increased dramatically since 1970’s with the shift of people to cities. (Levinson, Lomax, & Turner, 1997) Now, it is time to find solution. Toronto has a big

There are two key causes of it. The first one is excessive use of car. It is natural that the more cars make the more congested city. Then, why is congestion in Toronto as bad as it is? How many cars are there? According to the survey by the University of Toronto’s Data Management Group (2011), there were 1.1 million vehicles in Toronto in 2011. That excessive amount of cars are driven. It is natural stages. Toronto has many cars and drivers, but the number of roads is limited. That results in congestion. The second reason of congestion is the inconvenience of public transportation. Some people might say the way of solving congestion is taking a public transportation and how simple it is. However, many Torontonians complain about public transportation and say they have no other choices except using their cars. Here is a statement of a driver in Toronto. She commented, “... I would take the subway if I could, but because of where I work, it’s not very accessible by buses or anything, so it’s like a 20-minute walk to the closest bus stop. Since I have a car, that’s ridiculous.” (Moore, …show more content…
Being delayed behind the wheel increases displeasure of drivers. Research shows that people experiencing congestion more than three times a week are more 18.6 percent likely to be stressed than the people experiencing less times. (Moore, 2014) It makes people more and more stressful. Not just stress, there is one more severe consequence by congestion, ‘air pollution’. It is a well-known fact that car produced air pollution. According to the new study by researchers, “25% of cars and trucks are causing about 90% of pollution from the vehicle fleet.” (Richard, 2015) That is a crucial problem for human beings. If congestion is not solved, the air pollution will get worse. There is no Utopia in the real world. Even though Toronto has been ranked the best city to live in the world (Flack, 2015), nothing is perfect and it still has troubles. Of course, it is natural that problem exists in city where people live together. Everyone knows it is hard to eliminate traffic congestion, not just hard, it is impossible. The question in this, how can we curb the chaos on the road while ensuring one’s original commute time? How can we keep congestion within manageable
The severe economic conditions of the depression brought down and impacted numerous countries including Canada. When Bennett was running for prime minister he had no idea of the economic disasters that would be approaching and was unable to discover or utilize any effective methods to deal with them. During the 1930 election Robert campaigned to combat the aggressive measures of the great depression and when he was elected for the conservative party he immediately distributed $20 million toward helping the unemployed citizens of Canada. Unfortunately, the depression conveyed and produced many problems that no one was capable of adequately handling. Bennett attempted to strengthen Canadian trade by preferential tariffs, but unfortunately it
The Great Depression occurred after the huge stock market crash in 1929. However, the impacts were on going till the 1930s. Many individuals were affected by this stock market crash which led to destroying young innocent lives. This was the time where a majority of individuals were happy that WW1 is over, but then again it went back to a horrible state due to stock markets. For instance, for those who had a credit card and spent a lot of money on the loan they borrowed came out as a horrible lifestyle when Great Depression happened.
Hochswender made an incredibly compelling and persuasive argument in his essay, Did my Car Join Al Qaeda. Hochswender makes a great logos argument for this when he tells us about his circumstances in New York where he could get up to 70 inches of snow during the Winter. Many people need to find a vehicle that will fit there life style and that's just logical thinking. I live in Illinois, and in the winter we can get a lot of snow and the conditions can be pretty rough. It's circumstances like these where sometimes the vehicle you own can be a matter of life, death, or getting injured.
“The good the bad and the ugly” is a saying that could be used to describe the time period in which World War Two took place, especially in Canada. World War Two was a devastating time in the world, with millions of lives lost, many people would say that no good came out of the war. That statement is true to a certain extent, but if a closer look is taken about what happened in Canada during the war, plenty of good would be discovered. The war definitely contributed many positive aspects to the growth of Canada. Changes in the economy, the growing role of women, and an abundance of Canadian pride during those years has helped shape Canada into what it is today.
Alberta and Saskatchewan Become Canadian Provinces- Causes There are many ways in which the great causes of the development in the North West district of canada lead to the formation of the eighth and ninth provinces of the dominion of canada, Alberta and Saskatchewan. After they were built, it was decided by experts that Edmonton would become capital of Alberta, and Regina would become capital of saskatchewan(1). It all began when the population of the North West was expanding, many started to believe that they need the needed the same government as other provinces, so the discussion of whether to build one or two provinces commenced(1). The first cause of the establishment of Alberta and Saskatchewan was that by the end of the 1800s, many new settlers were drawn towards the North West territories due to the variety of resources being found in that region.
ISIS has had probably one of the biggest impacts on Canada ever since Justin Trudeau has started to let refugees or immigrants into Canada, some of those refugees and immigrants are part of ISIS. The first reason ISIS has made an impact is that they have been trying to kill people, but a lot of the people who tried killing people failed and have been sent to court. Some of the examples are. September 25th an ISIS member tried killing a police officer at 10:04pm after running the cop over with a silver chevy and getting out and stabbing the cop 8 times in the legs and running off into a u-haul van.
Petro-Canada’s Impact on the Canadian Economy Throughout the 1970s, economic relationships and dynamics worldwide in the energy economy experienced rapid changes, resulting in the incredibly volatile and unstable oil price climate. The issue with energy became a widely debated topic between Trudeau’s liberal government and its critics. During these years, the petroleum industry in Canada was dominated by foreign control, which was mostly American.
A vehicle made of shiny steel, rubber wheels, and a gas engine gives America its name and fame. The automobile symbolizes America’s legacy of freedom because it allows ease in job, home, and entertainment. To begin, the automobile broadens the options for the working class through a larger spectrum of places to settle and a larger salary for the average person. For the citizens of America owning a car means being able to arrive at work from wherever they may live, despite the circumstances. In “America’s Key to Freedom” Carol Domblewski states that” They had mobility any time they wanted, not just when a train schedule said they had it.”
This refers to the population expanding into low-density areas, typically car-dependent. In the GTA, there are high-density, central urban areas like downtown Toronto, but the population is growing into large areas used for detached housing that require the usage of cars for transportation, like Richmond Hill. Such an urban sprawl would only naturally lead to an increase in cars, going from an estimated 2 million registered automobiles in 1987, to 2.75 million in 1999. In turn, from 1987 to 1999, this contributed to a 27% increase in gasoline input and 27% in carbon dioxide emissions.

Some cities in china have everyone wear gas masks when they go outside. That 's just tragic! Can you imagine getting lung cancer for standing outside for 10 minutes? Cars can release 2 different kinds of pollution. There is primary pollution that goes straight into the air to pollute it and secondary pollution.
Almost every person in society uses a vehicle of some sort to commute from one place to another. According to a report from Ward's Auto released in 2010, the global number of cars exceeded 1 billion. With that being said, the people behind the wheel of these vast automobiles vary tremendously. Although there are numerous different characteristics of drivers, they all fall into one of three groups: Typical Commuters, Slowpokes, and Speed Demons.
Speeding There are many effects of speeding, such as ticket fees, going to court, driver important class, and a rise in insurance. All of these effects will make you rethink speeding, no matter what the causes for speeding are. Speeding is a very serious matter that could be prevented. Running late, or just wanting to go fast are two of the major causes of speeding.
These have a great effect on people’s work as there are many cars in the big cities so it makes it difficult to reach work at time. Actually the traffic jam wastes precious time of people just sitting in the car waiting for time to pass and for the cars to even move. Traffic jam makes it even difficult for people to walk and for some people who have sidewalk-to-sidewalk travel. Too many cars in a big city just makes it difficult for people to walk on a pavement and just get annoyed by the sound of the cars which is also noise pollution.
