Cyberbullying causes more depression. It can be more harmful than physical bullying, not only that but it can affect learning and could cause isolation. Previous studies have found that bullying causes a higher risk of mental health such as low self-esteem, poor school performance, depression, and an higher risk for suicide. Cyber Bullying can lead to suicidal thoughts, sometimes persisting into adulthood. In one study, adults who were bullied as a kid they were three times more likely to have suicidal thoughts or inclinations. Teens typically suffer in silence due to cyberbullying. The anonymous account of the internet allows children and teenagers to adopt a more aggressive character than they may express in real life. Email and text messages are really difficult to monitor as a parent of teenagers. Furthermore, many young people have computers with the potential to hide their behavior from their guardians or siblings, which could possibly worsen their behavior. Victims may increase their feelings of sadness and loneliness, change their sleep and eating patterns, lose interest in activities, and even have more health complaints.
Victims are often attacked by Cyberbullies when they’re most vulnerable. As a result, cyberbullies often target to doubt their worth and value. Victims may respond to the feelings by hurting themselves in some way. For example, if a boy is called fat, he may begin a diet thinking if he change his appearance the bullying will stop. However, other times victims will try to change something about their appearance or attitude to avoid cyberbullying.
