The tragedy of Ötzi’s death has caused many to wonder why Ötzi was murdered . After studying the iceman’s body and looking at all of his tools, everything found from blood traces to arrows makes one think Ötzi was killed. Who was Ötzi and what was his meaning? Why was Ötzi killed by another man? Many questions can be drawn from the iceman, and they will all be answered. Ötzi the iceman was a mummified man found in the Ötztal Alps separating Italy and Austria. As common hikers were going up the mountain, they stumbled across a body. A 5,000 year old body was dug up soon after and so was a dagger, copper axe, arrows with a quiver, and other items. Traces of a mountainous animal’s meat was discovered in his stomach, leading one to think he hunted. One mystery that could be brought up is why would Ötzi be fully fed? The best reasoning would be that Ötzi was prepared to journey up the mountaintop, however he was followed while venturing. Evidence of shoes (not normally worn) were found at the death site, which supports the fact Ötzi was ready. Also, Ötzi was equipped with is arrow’s, axe, dagger, and bow supporting how he was ready to fight. Before the mummy’s trip towards his death, an abundance of proof shows Ötzi was not rushed, but instead prepared for the adventure awaiting him into the next life.
Ötzi the iceman was a important person in his who was killed due to jealousy and envy. After being hit in the head, Ötzi was shot in the back with a war arrow. Realizing that he made a big mistake, the iceman’s killer took out the arrow used to kill Ötzi, Ötzi’s arrows, and Ötzi’s copper axe. He laid the arrows and the axe out to show he knew he made a mistake. Knowing that the axe was of great meaning, he left it to show his forgiveness. He then left and Ötzi’s corpse was still there.
