According to Rural Poverty Portal (2009) poverty in Bhutan is caused mainly due to nature of the topography. Bhutan has rugged terrain with only 2.93% arable land. The rugged terrain also limits the accessibility of inhabitants to social and health services and marketing and educational facilities adding to higher rate of poverty. Populations are growing rapidly in rural areas but resources and opportunities are limited. Due to high illiteracy rates and lack of trainings, rural people lack entrepreneurial skills and knowledge of technology that they need to improve their living standards. The limited access to credits and financial services, increasing cost of goods and services also aggravate poverty in rural areas. The other cause of poverty is natural calamities.
According to Wangdi (2015) since Bhutan lies in a mountainous region, our ecosystem is very fragile and prone to impact of climate change. Occurrence of flash flood and rising temperature will cause severe damage to our cropland since our agricultural land is located on slopes eventually affecting country’s food security. After 2030, rice yield is expected to decline gradually due to increase concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere. In Bhutan rice yield loss per hectare by 2030 is expected to be 3.2kg, 12.6 kg in 2050 and 22.5kg by 2100. Challinor et al (2009) also found out that crop yields can be reduced due to other impacts of climate change such as variable rainfall and temperature, loss of soil fertility
Haiti, one of the poorest countries in the world, with over half of the population living in extreme poverty, is in desperate need of help (“Poverty in Haiti: Aid, Earthquakes, and Imperialism”). The level of poverty in Haiti is so high that it stands out from the other countries in Latin America. Because of extreme poverty, children are often separated from their families and end up living in orphanages. Many Haitians live on the streets without money or resources needed to overcome poverty (“Top 5 Facts about Poverty in Haiti”). Throughout history and today, Haitians have lived in poverty with small chance of being able to provide for themselves and their families, but organizations such as KORE are investing in the lives of those suffering.
When it comes to social policy there are several factors that have to be considered. First, it must be determined what the leading causes of poverty are the United States. Additionally, one can look at previous administrations and their actions to try and beat poverty and how effective they were. In the end, there will have to be recommendation to either continue on with the current policy or create a new one. Initially, one must determine what the main contributing factors are to poverty.
Sadly, only a certain minority manipulates this income, this lead to rural poverty. Rural poverty refers to poverty found in rural areas. The Rural Poverty Portal stated that two out of three parts or rural areas in Central America are poor, also, stated that half of its population is situated below the poverty line. Most of them cannot afford the basic needs to live. The country that is more affected with rural poverty is Honduras, with 75% of its population living in rural poverty.
Also, the lack of infrastructure is a major problem. Citizens living in rural areas can often be faced with a lack of proper roads, bridges, technology, and transportation (Myers). Traveling far distances to access basic services is costly, not efficient, and keeps families in poverty (Myers). In order to understand poverty at best it is important to look at the problems and effects that come along with

Poverty – the lack of money, need or scarcity. Poverty in America is an on growing problem in America due to many reasons. Although many people currently in poverty resort to the government providing welfare, the government could’ve put them in their position in the first place. As stated by David Brooks of the New York Times, “The problem is not lack of attention, and it’s not mainly lack of money.” He continues by stating how poverty has scarcely changed in the past thirty years, also saying how much money is spent on children in schools per year in Baltimore, $15,483 per child.
Mostly, you don’t have to be jobless or homeless to be in the poverty line. People that have a job that can barely make ends meet. People who work are generally happier and healthier but that’s incorrect. The working poor is generated by employers being lay off and giving current workers additional work without pay increases, low start pay. As long as we support the corporations and employees that have help create the poverty in America they will keep greed as their priority and care less about any recession.
These here are both examples of how within the next few years due to climate change many more people will continue to fall into poverty as the resources become more limited and as they continue to increase in
“When the rice gets sick, I am sad too.” In an article for Public Radio International, reporter Christopher Johnson tells the story of a 63 year old Vietnamese rice farmer. Hai Thach, who lives in the Soc Trang Province of Vietnam, notices that his once thriving rice field has been affected by saline intrusion, or the presence of salt in the water and soil in the area. Thach, along with other rice farmers in the province, rely heavily on their rice crops not only to feed their families, but as a source of income (Johnson). Although Vietnam’s carbon footprint is miniscule compared to those of countries like the United States and China, its farmers and citizens are being negatively impacted by the effects of climate change-
The Effects of Growing up in Poverty Poverty is not a new phenomenon we are dealing with. It has been an issue from the foretime till now. Poverty gradually has continued and changed its form in a different manner that has created many problems for the new generations, for example, in the old days poverty implicated to lack land and food, but nowadays, poverty means lack of education, lack of food and water, lack of money and much more. The main cause of poverty is a lack of money or income which has created a very critical situation in local and international society. These critical situations are child labor, hunger, health problems and much more that we are dealing with nowadays.
The impact of climate change is being felt throughout the world; however, the situation is more pronounced in developing countries because many households, social groups and regions have a limited capacity to adapt to climate variability and change (UNFCCC, 2007; IPCC 2007). The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC, 2007:6) defined climate change as any change in climate over time, whether due to natural variability or as a result of human activity. The (UNFCCC 2007) espoused that agricultural production on the African continent relies primarily on rainfall. As such, any interruption in rainfall pattern and intensity will adversely affect the poor, predominantly the smallholder farmers (ibid).

Literature Review: Theoretical Approaches, Empirical Studies, Analytical Concepts and Legal Frameworks Theoretical Approaches towards food security With respect to the theoretical approaches to food security, there are three theories developed in 1970s and 1980s as cause to food insecurity. The first one is Climate theory; this theory explains food insecurity as caused by climatic phenomena. Cox, related this theory with the concept of “famine belt” in which he directly links climate condition to food insecurity. This theory argued that in the national or local level, climate linked phenomena such as drought, floods and others are a major factor causing food insecurity (Cox, 1981, cited in Steven Engler,
Rural development is as important as urban development. Alleviating the hardships of the rural people is fundamental to rural development. Efforts at developing the rural areas are aimed at creating industries and employment opportunities. Any initiative towards this end would be welcomed with open arms in Nepal. This would also reduce the population density in the cities.
