“Is it the end of your life if there is no better chance than hanging yourself, leaving your parents to mourn your death just because of that one thing that bothers you?” Teen suicide has said to rise rapidly day by day caused by depression that cannot be overlooked in any degrees. Depression works silently as it does not show any obvious sign on a person dealing with it. It is a huge plague in the world among teenagers as it does not only involve mind, but also the body and thoughts. The causes of depression among teenagers include peer pressure, traumatic life events, emotional and physical abuse as well as academic stress.
First and foremost, peer pressure causes teen depression to become a chronic mental health issue that ends up in making a wrong decision among adolescents. It has been claimed that the indications of depression are predicted by the qualities of best friendships and romantic relationships (Greca & Harrison, 2005). A traumatic event is an incident that causes physical, emotional, spiritual, or psychological harm. The person experiencing the traumatic event may feel threatened, anxious, or frightened as a result (Cafasso, 2012). Several studies found that traumatic life events were the single biggest determinant of anxiety and depression followed by a family history of mental illness and income and education level (ScienceDaily, 2013). There are many examples of traumatic events, such as a death of family member or pet, moving to a new place or parental abandonment. An example mentioned or a major change in lifestyle can trigger depression. The more painful and stressful a teenager experiences, the longer a recovery from depression a teenager may take (Poncelet, 2017). Hence, teenagers may need extra emotional support from surrounded people when they are experiencing traumatic life
