Social media plays an important role in people’s lives. People use social media as the number one means of communication; social media has made communication with people all around the world even easier. However, people are unaware of increasing negative effects of social media on their daily lives. Even though social media can be used as a very helpful tool in changing a person’s life, social media has been major causes of cyberbullying, distraction and drop in productivity level of work areas, and increasing personal fraud activities in society. Cyberbullying is one of the effect of social media among people. In general, cyberbullying involves hurting someone else using information or communication technologies (Nixon 2). There is no direct contact between bullies and victims. In fact, social media has been used as a platform for bullies to contact and attack their victims online at any time because bullies do not have the feeling of fear since there is no physical proximity on the victims. Social media interrupt life in every level. For instance, when people are doing something interesting, they want every people to know about the interesting things. They feel excitement and immediately post things on social media, but the excitement of posting things results in distracting people from whatever they are doing. People are interrupting their experience; they are not enjoying their life fully. Furthermore, the distractions drop productivity level of people at work. An average of 23.5 hours is spent accessing social media at work everyday and 13 percent of the total productivity is lost owing to the social media indulgence alone (TeamLease World of Work Report, 2016).
