Pandemics will be the downfall of the human race. Avian flu can become this pandemic. Avian flu is a bird flu, but has been known to make the cross-species jump to humans, pigs, and even whales. The H5N1 virus, a strain of an avian influenza, has been terrorizing the world for several years. Symptoms affect the infected host very quickly and negatively, sometimes causing death in a day. Over 100 people have died as a result of this virus, mostly in Asia. The reason for this virus’ rapid spread is overpopulation of this planet. There are birds and people all over the Earth, meaning that the virus can spread everywhere, and that everyone can become sick.
Overpopulation can occur at any time if the conditions are favorable for them. According

In Darwin’s The Origin of Species, paragraph 15, when a species has a high population in a small area, disease spreads very quickly. This is because there are many organisms in close proximity to each other, which means that the disease can spread from organism to organism very quickly and very easily. In the case of avian flu, the virus spreads so quickly because the chickens are very close and locked up in pens. Since the chickens are so close for so much of the time, the disease spreads quickly through them, and they become ill. Overpopulated small spaces make disease very easy to spread, and help them spread much faster.
Avian flu is a flu that mostly affects birds, but in some cases, has made the cross-species jump and afflicted humans. The strain of avian flu that has been circulating around for the past few years is the H5N1 virus. According to Marc Siegel, in “Bird flu: Pandemic of fear?”, it is an Avian flu spreads most efficiently among birds but has been known to spread to humans as well. Avian flu spreads bird to bird very easily because it is primarily a bird disease. However, this disease can be spread from bird to human when a human ingests the virus. Humans can ingest the virus by consuming an infected bird. Once the human has ingested the virus, they can become sick from H5N1 as well and can die. The avian flu spreads best among birds but can spread to humans and kill
Influenza was a deadly virus that killed millions of people around the world back in 1918. The virus of influenza has eight genes with no fix structure, and the segment structure can change the virus fragmentation endlessly. The virus is independent and can replicate rapidly once it gets into your lungs which can the air pathway and the infected person would drown in their own body. People with the virus can spread it by coughing, sneezing, and sometimes people might touch a surface which has the virus on it and touch their mouth or nose without properly washing it. The virus has eight genes.
The author describes H5N1 as bird flu like virus, which spreads from chickens to humans and is very contagious and has a high fatality rate. If the definition of H5N1 was not present, the reader would have to make an assumption of what it is; however, there are multiple hints that would help the reader figure out what H5N1 was through context clues. Due to the fact that “The Dealiest Virus had multiple context clues to help define H5N1, the definition in “Out of the Wild” is needed and the author does a better job to assert what Marburg is. Another rhetorical pattern used by both authors is cause and effect, which plays a big role in developing the severity of the viruses. In “Out of the Wild,” Quammen uses cause and effect to show what could happen to the world if the Marburg virus was to escape the bats and get to other animals and eventually into human nature.
Throughout history diseases have been and outbreak everywhere. There are cures, but the ones that are very deadly can kill an ill person within hours. The name of the diseases is the Bird flu, Spanish flu, the Plague, the Cholera, Smallpox, and the Ebola. The disease that is most affecting the nation is the plague.
Influenza, “ has been described as the greatest medical holocaust in history” and may have killed as many people as the Black Plague”. This illness, (which originated from southeast asia) was obviously quite lethal, but nowadays we have an effective mean of defense, a vaccine, also known as the flu shot! Influenza is a virus that spreads in droplets caused by coughing or sneezing! It’s symptoms include fevers, chills, muscle aches, coughing, congestion, runny noses, headaches, and fatigue. If you notice that somebody has these symptoms don’t worry it’s not a life or death situation, however you might wanna stay away from them, it’ll save you a huge discomfort!
Whereas this plague normally only affects five people or so a year. It is not very common for humans to contract this plague, but every so often it happens. The problem is this disease has been contracted much than usual during these past few months. In the past two months twelve people have contracted this disease, which is more the yearly average.
Task 2 C228 V2 Breanna Bras Western Governors University An example of a communicable disease outbreak that crossed international borders is the H1N1 influenza virus, also known as “swine flu”. The H1N1 flu outbreak was originally discovered in April 2009. The first known occurrence originated in Mexico and then was detected in the United States soon after. By May 2009, the H1N1 flu virus was confirmed to have spread to a total of 39 countries including: Spain, United Kingdom, Panama, Colombia, Brazil, Italy, China, France, Korea, New Zealand, Japan, Ireland, Germany, Argentina, El Salvador, Belgium, Denmark, Australia, Peru, Norway, India, Austria, Thailand Cuba, Sweden, Portugal, Ecuador, Finland, Guatemala, Israel, Malaysia, Netherlands, Turkey and Poland ("Latest news on swine flu", 2009).
The influenza first attacked people who were in close contact with each other, places like military bases and prisons had to face the deadly disease head on in it 's early stage. At first it was thought to be a small dilemma that would be over within weeks, instead it spread like wildfire. “By noon, the camp’s hospital had dealt with over one hundred ill soldiers. By week’s end, that number jumped to five hundred.”
The vaccine market is worth 24 billion dollars and are protected from lawsuits if the side effects are dangerous or deadly. The flu vaccine is used in the medical industry to inject a flu virus in you to protect your immune system. They used this protecting you from the flu virus a common disease and it high points are in January-March. The pharmaceutical market makes it possible for the flu shot to be in pharmacies, clinics and hospitals. It was developed in 1938 by 2 men by the names Jonas Salk and Thomas Francis.
This burden varies from year to year, which makes it difficult to estimate the annual number of deaths or the economic impact. Influenza Basics Influenza or the “flu” is a contagious respiratory disease that is caused by influenza viruses
The regulations put out by government ensured that the outbreak would come to an immediate halt, and if a new epidemic were to sweep through the states, it would be derailed. Another outbreak of influenza became prevalent in England in 1933. A doctor was able to isolate the disease and noticed how it spread. Lots of this was due to research from the Spanish Influenza, and the death toll was much lower. (Youngdahl)
According to the article “ Tiny Invaders” by Kimberly Feltes Taylor, it states that Ebola is the deadliest because you bleed from under your skin and you have very high fevers, but no the Bird flu is the most dangerous. The Bird flu has more symptoms. If you get the Bird flu it is very bad because the symptoms are fever, cough, sore throat, runny and stuffy nose, muscle or body aches, fatigue, headaches, conjunctivitis (eye redness), and difficult in breathing. This means that people who have Bird flu could infect people who do not have the Bird flu. This also means that the Bird flu is the deadliest out of all the
•The influenza infection is extremely infectious: When a contaminated individual coughs, wheezes or talks, respiratory droplets are produced and transmitted into the air, and can then can be breathed in by someone close-by. •A person who touches something with the infection on it and afterward touches his or her mouth, eyes or nose can get to be contaminated. •An influenza pandemic, for example, the one in 1918, happens when a particularly harmful new flu strain for which there 's practically no immunity shows up and spreads rapidly from individual to-individual around the world.
It keeps getting worse everyday all over the news they are talking about. About three weeks ago a plague broke out. The first week half the world was infected. My father and other scientists have been working hard to find a cure but they found nothing so far. The plague got so out of control they had to make special bases for people who had the infection and the people who did not have it.
In the US, up to 64 million people are infected with influenza every year with 51 thousand cases resulting in death. (Treanor) The fever, runny nose, and body aches keep Americans curled up in their bed, miserable, all week. You try to do everything you can to isolate yourself from the virus, but somehow it always finds a way to get you sick. It seems like it is the same routine every year of taking days off work or completing make up work for school.
Emerging influenza is a seasonal viral disease caused by influenza A virus (H1N1). It spreads rapidly and costs society a considerable amount in terms of health care expenses, reduction in productivity as well as loss of life. The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the outbreak to be a pandemic because of growing worldwide cases [5]. It cost the society a huge amount in terms of morbidity and mortality and monetary cost as well with a typical flu pandemic. The existence of influenza virus among human population in many countries of the world including India has emphasized public health care organizations to take effective preventive measure.
