PROBLEMS: a) Unaccountable expenditure on election has become root cause of corruption. Corruption and political funding are indivisibly linked. In major state, corruption money may well be of the order of Rupees 60,000 billion over a period of 5 years. There’s a vast bureaucracy involved in extortion of money for providing public services as there are about 4000 public servants appointed for each elected legislator. b) Party finances are not transparent. c) Parties in power impurely use public money for personal benefits and also for publicity. d) Corporate groups and honest individuals have no incentive for funding such activities. e) Abuse of political power is common in organizing political rallies and meetings and in raising resources. …show more content…

Citizens are voting very badly and selling their votes for money. People often blame the illiterate and poor citizens of India for the plight of democracy, but in reality the enthusiasm of such countless people has so far sustained our democracy. It is observable that party cannot be done in isolation. Democracy, disclosure and openness are indivisible and there is a necessity of effective legislation for the conduct of the political party in respect of funding and choice of candidates. The time the parties seek power over us and control over the state, they part with their claim to immunity based on state rule and public scrutiny based on reasonable restrain. There is utterly irresponsible, autocratic and accountable control of power over the public by such political parties. The crisis of political parties and the unaccountable funding is a national problem and can only be resolved with a national effort. There should be internal democracy in the parties regulated by law and should be supervised and monitored by statutory authorities. Internal democracy should be, by law obligated to practice in all respect and should be and should be verifiable by any external agency, for example- Election Commission. Extra care and caution should be exercised to that the democratic choices of parties are nowhere, indirectly or directly influenced by external monitoring agencies or by
