Malaysia is a multiracial country with a rich cultural heritage. Unique to Malaysia is the 'Open House' concept where during the various cultural and religious festival like Hari Raya, Chinese New Year, Deepavali, Gawai Day and others, friends and families and even strangers would visit the homes of those who are celebrating the festival, to wish them well and enjoy the feast prepared by the hosts. Although the visitors may be from different races, they still can tolerate with each other and live under the same roof where they celebrate the festival together. This will help to strengthen the ties among
Having food on the table, a roof over your head, and a job to make ends meet. It is a basic human right. We live in a global era where all people need one another to survive and succeed. Immigrants bring diversity to the United States, along with their cultures, and skills, which help make us stronger as a nation. Without diversity in our society, we would be self-centered, which means we need immigrants.
Racial minority groups (blacks and Hispanics) as well as the majority group (whites) could either form a coalition or compete depending on the socioeconomic or political objectives that they have, and the location where they reside. A coalition would occur when both groups have similar goals, expectations, and sense of teamwork. A competition would occur when two or more groups are trying to achieve the same goal, but only one can attain success. According to McClain and Karnig, “Socioeconomic indicators included median education, median, income, percent nonpoverty population, and percent employed” (536).
Since its inception America has been coined the “melting pot,” a term that’s intended to encase pride over the vast amount of diversity contained within our country. That pride, however, is nothing more than an idealization of the truth. America is a country of great diversity, but its pride and acceptance of that diversity relies on a contingent tolerance. Diversity is a wide term that can refer to a number of different groups and in this context it is referring to groups of minorities in America, particularly the LGBT community. Perhaps, the best illustration of this harmful treatment can be found in the media, specifically in the form of television.
Chapter 10 in Cultural Diversity deals with treating victims of hardships. There were a few key themes that impacted me more than others and I would like to talk about those. There were many subjects and points made that I found interesting, but to keep it in a two page paper I will summarize as best as possible. I will say that I have learned a lot reading this specific chapter, understanding how things that affect others can so easily be swept under the rug, or just expected to be forgotten or forgiven as atrocities from the past. Reading through the chapter I see that as a common theme.
“America is not a blanket woven from one thread, one color, one cloth.” America is greatly influenced by countless cultures and the cultural diversity has benefited the economy with new ideas and lifestyles. The different races, ethnicity, and lifestyles that people in America have, is what makes America so special and unique. While some people believe that new people coming into American should behave as Americans do, it can be argued that the USA is moving towards a new standard in which diversity and individuality are encouraged more because of how essential cultural diversity is and the opportunities it provides. Our country, schools, and jobs all consist of various cultures.
Diversity can be defined as the state in which people in a group have physical, demographic, philosophical or neurological differences. The item that I have chosen to make is representing the racial aspect of diversity. This is done through the use of The reason that I have chosen to explore this aspect of diversity is because it is particularly relevant to me and also, in general, in Australia, which is a multicultural country. Statistically speaking, Australia is one of the most culturally diverse nations in the world. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, 40% of Australian citizens are either immigrants or the children of them, while 15% of Australians speak a language other than English at home.
1 The time between the First and Second World Wars saw the emergence of cultural diversity in Australian society that was characterized by a expanded migration of people, especially men from southern Europe, the Adriatic and the Mediterranean. Restrictive entry conditions remained, such as the exclusion of women and children from non-British backgrounds. The exception was Japanese, Malay and Filipino pearl divers who continued to work under the exemptions of the The Immigration Restriction Act 1901. The 1920s and 1930s were hard times with a Depression that saw massive unemployment, poverty and hardship.
It is important to have diversity in dolls because it shows how all people are treated equally, how their religion is, and culture. You can learn how kids want to know more about other people’s race based on the dolls. Everybody can learn what diversity is by the dolls and what diversity means. This is how diversity affects kids and what effect is has on kids today. Kids don’t have a good understanding of why their are so many blonde dolls and not brown or black haired dolls.

Akachukwu Nwosu Pam Murphy English 2130 02/12/2017 Analysis of Langston Hughes’ “Harlem” To me, race is way more than the ethnic group to which an individual belongs to. It goes beyond the physical varieties we see in the human species, such as skin color, hair texture and body size. From the beginning of time till this day, race has been a strong determining factor that influences how members of today’s society are treated, remembered and acknowledged. In America, to be precise, there is a blatant history of racial tensions and divides, specifically between white and black folks across the country. Award-winning poem, “Harlem”, uncovers the sad truth behind the deferred dreams and aspirations of America’s black community.
In the last few years, the world has been growing more than ever towards the cosmopolitan ideology. This is the result of ethnic heterogeneity, like racial and ethnic backgrounds, religion, culture and ability in a community of people, which continues to play a part in an individual’s or a country’s development. Such growth in variety has its pros and cons. The strengths of a diverse society are cognizance of humanity and ethnic cohesiveness. A flaw would be the possible making of a divided nation.
As for the Malays which consisted the majority and accounted for half of the populations, they have endless privileges. All of these privileges can be deemed as unfair to the ethnic minorities, and thus they may end up feeling inferior. For example, the Bruneian citizens who are mostly Malays could easily get free access to education. While at the same time, for the Chinese and Indians that are non-Bruneian, they had to make a certain amount of payment to get an education in Brunei. It showed that Brunei favored its people and consequently making other ethnic groups to have lesser gratification.
Our country, Malaysia is a small, tropical country that lies within South-East Asia. Although it is small, it has a number of things to boast about. And the most prominent among these things is its multiracial community. This is due to people of different races living together in harmony within the borders of this little country. This has shaped Malaysia into a melting pot of vastly different cultures and religions, creating diversity.
All students deserve to be treated fairly as individuals. When considering the diversity of the class members, we will celebrate the uniqueness that the differences contribute. Because I have high expectations that all my children can be successful, adjustments may be necessary because everyone is not the same (Burden, 2017, p. 115). It is vital that a spirit of understanding and edification is active amongst the students and from the teacher (Romans 14:19, King James Version) to produce fruits of mutual respect: reduced bias, positive academic outcomes, enhanced problem solving, and healthy group dynamics (Cousik, 2015, p. 54). For differences that stem from culture, gender, ethnicity, or socioeconomic status, the adjustments will involve bridging the cultural gap between the students’ diversity and the curriculum.
