Today social problems are considered as an increasing phenomenon among many youngsters. Sometimes youngsters might think that social problems does not affect directly the communities but it becomes a concern issue among the communities in Malaysia. We often hear or read about social problems or even crime which done by youngsters in a very young age through all sources of media such as newspaper or television. Education plays an important role in handling this issue. Education comes in two forms, informal education from parents and formal education from school where knowledge is gained especially in academic fields. By informal education, parents should expand their knowledge and skills on how to teach their children about the disadvantages of drugs. They must manage their time well to monitor their children from useless or harmful behavior. According to Morrison, M.A. ( 1990), in school, the students have their teacher to control them from social activities and teachers should engage with their students and understand all their problems. School discipline must be tightened. Collaboration between teachers and parents of the students should be improved. The students must have the behavior of attending for an counseling session in school whenever they face any critical problems. Besides, government also should organize event exhibition such as National Youth Day and many more to attract youngsters to have healthy lifestyles. Youngsters must encourage themselves to involve in healthy activities and enjoy their young age to avoid peer pressure that leads to involve in unhealthy
In Social Problems, Anna Leon-Guerrero (2016) she states, “… The functional perspective, examines the functions or consequences of the structure of society. Functionalist use a macro perspective, focusing on how society maintains social order” (13). Society has created expectations on what is viewed as acceptable or unacceptable behavior and this can include criminal behavior. This is any deviation from the social norms that are agreed by the majority of the community and the violation of any existing laws that is passed by legislation. For an example, a single parent losses’ his or her job and are worried whether the rent is covered with his or her last paycheck or whether they will qualify for food stamps.
Teaching kids about drug abuse will ultimately keep them in a safer
However, it was found that youth, between the ages 12 to 17, accounted for only 7% of the population (Allen & Superle, 2016). This is of much significance considering the length of time since the crime rate began to fall in the 1990s. In order to solve this problem, one must find the root of it. Many perspectives lay the blame on Canadian youth for their poor decisions and rebelliousness. However, I believe that young people are uncontrollably bound to deviant behaviour.
According to a recent study, “Around 284 million people aged 15-64 used drugs worldwide in 2020, a 26 per cent increase over the previous decade.” (Hansford, Brian. 2022). With this increase it has gotten particularly much easier for youth to gain access to these illegal substances. Youth are particularly vulnerable as their brains and bodies are still in the development phase. Altering this phase with the use of these dangerous substances will result in major health impacts on the brain and body, resulting in further, more drastic issues later in life.
Parents, teachers and even doctors need to be better educated in knowing what to look for and how to prevent prescription drug abuse. Parents need to be taught that their medication is not safe in a medicine cabinet where kids can get a hold of it. They need to be taught safe storage and the proper way to dispose of medication especially controlled substances.7 There is an ad campaign out right now that I saw on TV today educating parents about the medications in their house and how dangerous it could be for an adolescent who is looking for meds. Doctors also need to be knowledgeable when it comes to prescribing medication.
Even though TV is quite violent today. We cannot blame youth violence on the media. One’s neighborhood is one of the most significant environments that influences kids. This is because kids learn how to live in this world by who and what is around them. If there is a lot of violence in the area.
This paper discusses the theories in radical criminology which contributes core understanding of the youth crime. Furthermore, the nature and extent of youth crime as well as the impact it had on the response of the criminal justice system is critically evaluated. Crime and Criminal Justice System According to McAra and McVie (2010) rupturing of any law and regulation is recognised as crime which may be minor as well as severe. It is said that the administration or establishments generally make laws and commandments that the people of the state
There are several school-based prevention programs, designed to make schools more effective in eliminating delinquency issues. Cognitive based prevention programs, behavioral, environmental and therapeutic programs are all designed to deter delinquency in juveniles. Cognitive based prevention programs, are designed to increase students' knowledge about the dangers of drugs and delinquency. DARE, or Drug Abuse Resistance Education would be an example of this. Behavioral programs, assist students by giving them the tools they need to, successfully, resist peer pressure, for example, many schools now employ several campaigns throughout the school year that enables juveniles to build healthy relationships, and avoid negative peer pressure, tactfully.
This makes it very difficult to identify who might be most at risk for struggling with substance abuse. It is imperative that young adults understand the repercussions of using drugs and alcohol for extended periods of time and how to be treated if substance abuse is something they struggle with in their life. I have created a teaching plan in order to educate young adults about the possible indicators of substance abuse and the negative effects that can come from it. My plan will help young adults comprehend the negative consequences of substance abuse, in order to allow them to make better decisions in the future and to avoid all situations in which they may be tempted to use alcohol or drugs. The goal of the plan is to present information on substance abuse in an effective and appropriate manner so that knowledge and
“Over 60% of teens claim drugs are used on school grounds”(Fitzgerald). Over the years, schools have not been doing anything to prevent this. Teens revealed that, “1 in 5 of their classmates either drink, use drugs, or smoke during school hours on school grounds” (Fitzgerald). More studies show that, “17% of high school students use drugs daily.” Kids in schools know someone who either does drugs, or sells drugs on school grounds (“School”).
The research was carried out to determine if victimization has any direct effect towards the behavior of the young people living in those areas. It came up with the results that any time there is victimization, the youths are expected to be more violent as a way of reacting to the victimization. The research is relevant because it involved the research on the group observed to be the most violent in the society. In relation to the study in this paper, it is important in determining the major causes of the violence among the
Treatment rather than Punishment Thesis Statement: Children, as innocents and infantile, are unconsciously doing unwanted acts that may violate our laws, therefore insufficient guidance from family, environmental factors syndicates, poverty and problem on education, which are the main rationales for their involvement on crimes should be given corresponding solution by the government. INTRODUCTION Juvenile delinquency means that a youth specifically those who are below 18 years old commits an act that is against the law. The main features of prevention policy are a focus on both licit and illicit substances, strong cooperation with the educational system, and important interventions in selective and indicated
Social Problems in Societies Social problems are issues which are considered to affect majority if not all members of a society either directly or indirectly. Whenever people come to live together in a social setting, conflict arises from their differences in opinions regarding political issues, religion, ethnic issues, cultural practices and other health and hygiene issues. In such a situation, we can say a society inevitably develops social problems. The various social issues present today vary from society to society, and as such, we cannot say that all societies face similar social issues.
A few sorts of drugs are helpless to mishandle by youth. These medications range from most regular and less costly, for example, cigarettes and liquor to extravagant and all the more fatal, for example, cocaine and heroin. Teenagers are curious to try out those drugs and with the poor parent-child relationship it is easy for teenagers to access those drugs. Parents are no more in the firm position to direct and aide their youngsters. A portion of the young live far from their parents,
