Who is Cecilia Gallegos? Cecilia Gallegos is a little too complex to describe in a mere essay, I’ve been pondering this question for years but the answer is simple, I am Cecilia Gallegos. I was born one cold late night of the last year of the 20th Century, I was 3 minutes from being named after my Grandma Ramona almost being born on her birthday, luckily I was born at 11:57 pm and was named Cecilia instead. I have always been a very caring person, so deciding to be a teacher came naturally, having an extreme level of patience, and an attention to students needs I believe my skill set will best be used teaching Special Education. I have been in Teaching Academy for 3 years, where I have worked with special education students and fell in love with them teaching.If later in life I chose to pursue teaching a different subject I would hope to still have a connection with students and help those especially who get as discouraged as I do in school.if anything is to come from my mistakes at school I hope it's to encourage others not to make the same.Being a teacher is a goal I have set for myself, I know it will not be easy and it will not always be rewarding but if I can help at least one student I will be able to die satisfied I ask again who is Cecilia Gallegos? Oscar Casares created a very believable character in “Mrs. Perez” by writing about Lolas passion, bowling, and including flash backs about her younger life and family. He used these flash backs and incorporated her family to go into depth about her past, and let the readers infer why she is the way she is. The bowling ball that is repeatedly mentioned throughout the story contrast her past life. By giving her a hobby, and showing the struggles she has experienced in her past, she becomes like a real person readers empathize with. To begin with, Casares often went back in time to show her seemingly unhappy life with her now deceased husband.

In the Dominican Republic, General Rafael Trujillo 's dictatorship is being judged within the eyes of the four Maribal sisters. In the story "In the Time of the butterflies" by Julia Alvarez the four sisters that are all strikingly different, are contemplating on whether to follow along with the anti- Trujillo movement. Minerva being the most dominant one out of all the sisters, is first to follow through against Trujillo. Alvarez involves feminism, rhetorical and literary devises, and portrayed various themes in her novel. Along with showing the strong relationship, and the differences between the four sisters, they showed us readers the true meaning of family.

The stories “Abuela Invents the Zero” and “A Celebration of Grandfathers” follow the past of a very nice, thoughtful man by the name of Rudolfo Anaya, and the present day of a rude, unthoughtful girl by the name of Constancia. Both of these stories give very different points of views in terms of character personality and respect towards their elders. To begin, both of the stories are based off of the relationship between a grandparent and their grandchild. In “Abuela Invents the Zero”, Constancia’s grandmother went on her first trip to America. She went to America between September and March because the story explained that she wanted to see the snow in America before she died.

Julia Alvarez’s In the Time of the Butterflies is a work of historical fiction which is about four sisters who fight the oppressive leader, Rafael Trujillo, in the Dominican Republic. Dede, Minerva, Maria Teresa, and Patria Mirabal are the four sisters who go against Trujillo, that are the epitome of a person’s courage, faith, compassion, and growth. These sisters come together and use these exemplary characteristics to fight an oppressive regime. The theme of the courage and strength to stand up to tyranny in In the Time of the Butterflies is best exemplified through the character of Minerva Mirabel, through her courage to stand up to Rafael Trujillo.
