“Trying to be happy by accumulating possessions is like trying to satisfy hunger by taping sandwiches all over you”. This quote describes how money and “stuff” can’t bring happiness. This is a story about a local fisherman named Kino who must team up with Juana, his wife, and Coyotito, his son, to overcome greed and jealousy and all people infected by it. The symbols, including the pearl, the town members and even Kino himself, represent greed and anger. So, In The Pearl by John Steinbeck develops the theme “greed and materialism can lead to immoral behavior like violence” through Kino’s infatuation with his pearl.
The title To Kill a Mockingbird is a symbol or metaphor for many things throughout the story. In a literal sense it is a sin to kill an innocent bird that does nothing but sing songs. Metaphorically it means that it sin to hurt or kill something that does nothing or can not do anything to you. I understood this “rule” more and more as we got through the book. This can be associated with different people or things throughout the story.
Money is often what is associated with greed in this world. It can blind people to the point where they disregard the situation of all others. In the play “A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry, Walter Lee wants the money that was left from his late father’s life insurance to invest in a liquor store. Everyone else in the family thinks that it’s a very bad idea. His mother, also known as Mama, is the one receiving the money, and wants it to be spent on bettering the family.

William Shakespeare wrote a play called Macbeth, where the main character Macbeth is trying to get the most power he possibly can and kill everyone in his way. Macbeth's actions are caused by strong and maybe small emotions that guide his actions. Emotions like anger, guilt, sadness, greed, and many more. Macbeth’s character is very simple, he is a man that is given a very good opportunity for power and he takes it and doesn’t want to give it up. Macbeth's actions were mostly controlled by greed, anger, and guilt.
I read several articles of Walker’s biography, and slowly pieced together the character of Alice Walker. I began to read her most famous, yet controversial piece, “The Color Purple”, to acquire a grasp of Walker’s writing.
In the cautionary tale, The Pardoner, the author exemplifies the dangers of greed. The story focuses on three men who come together to defeat “Death.” As they begin their journey, they are displayed as friends, even going as far as calling each other brothers. When they discover a large sum of money, they begin turning on one another, all of whom want the money for theirselves. The author’s shows that greed is the root of all evil.
twice referring to Celie’s two pregnancies as a result from her stepfathers abuse. Firstly the objectification is evident in the ownership the stepfather has over both Celie and Nettie and the unemotional approach to marriage. The refusal of ‘giving’ Nettie to Mr Albert is significant as
“For greed all nature is too little.” The meaning of this quote is that greed can take over anybody and could have no limits including somebody's life. I see and connections between greed, my life, Bob Ewell, and James K Polk. The author uses this quote to say that greed is superior then your inner or peace of mind. Everybody Has greed either big or small amount.

Dear God. " This captures how religion and spirituality are presented in The Color Purple: a switch from a belief in a single God, which to Celie is portrayed as an old white man in a long beard, into a God that exists all around, and is a part of human happiness. Celie started writing letters to God as a way of escaping and in order to survive her father 's sexual abuse and relies on God as she believes that her sister, Nettie is dead. She later comes to view God as an outgrowth of nature 's beauty, after Shug convinces her that God is more than what white people say, and what church teachings confirm.
For example, Celie becomes socially, economically and spiritually free, she sins love, dignity, and respect. This paper has analyzed how the characters in The Color Purple arouse their self-consciousness, through sisterhood and encouragement, love and help from their partners. The author demonstrates how the characters escape degradation caused by mistreatment by men and finally win dignity. The paper recognizes that Celie utilizes sisterhood to gain liberation, sexual identity independence, and freedom. Works Cited Thyreen, Jeannine. "
Family Through According to Alice Walker Alice Walker had a lot to say about family in her book, The Color Purple, in this book family had loose conditions and was often inter tangled. Celie’s friends and family were remarkably confusing and complicated at times, because many people were sleeping with people they were not married to and that was married to their friends. However, no family is perfect, so why would this one be, in the end it was all Celie and everybody else really needed.
I think that the author is trying to make subtle clues about Celie really being the child’s mother. Celie seemed very interested in the child, so I think that she would want a relationship with her if she could. I think that Celie would be happier if she got to be a mother to her own child. When I saw all those clues about her child, I got so excited because I felt like there was about to be a family reunion
