“Attention students, there is a lockdown, please go to the safest part of your classroom and be as quiet as possible!” The students quickly run into classrooms and go and hide in the back. The students are behind chairs or desks and are as quiet as possible. It 's not a drill, but because the ban of cell-phones in class, no one has their phones to tell their parents they are okay. Cell phones have been banned in multiple schools, but now more and more schools are allowing them to be used. Some schools believe banning cell phones will help kids learn better, and some believe that using a phone is an effective learning tool to have in school. So which side is more effective? Even though cell phones can occasionally be distracting, schools should allow them because they can be beneficial for learning, provide safety in case of an emergency, and allow a value of freedom and connection to students and teachers.

First off having a cell-phone in class provides more safety and communication for students in case of an emergency. Cell-phones give the students a stronger feeling of safety if they know that a family member is only one call away in an emergency. According to Mayor De Blasio, “ it is important for parents to be able to easily contact their kids.” (Kiema 2) Parents want to know if their child is okay and they don’t want some ban on cell-phones in class to prevent protection for their child.
