Although cell phones can be distracting in a learning environment, they allow the students, teachers, and schools to take advantage of new technology as a resource for communication and innovation. Communication has become very mobile over the past decade, most homes no longer even have landline phones. Cell phones now provide a way for parents/siblings to contact each other during the day for rides or changes in plans. During Bloomberg administration, the Mayor of New York, many parents complained to the school board with concerns, arguing that they need “to be able to easily contact their kids” (Keima 1). The successor of Mayor Bloomberg, Mayor Bill De Blasio, sided with the parents and changed the policy in order for the students and parents to feel safer.
When you wake up in the morning, what is the first thing you do? If you said check the tiny screen lying right next to you, you are just like 80 percent of our nation. As years go by, cell phones become a bigger and bigger part of our daily life. In fact, many people believe we should incorporate cell phones into the learning process at school. Although some people say say cell phones give us an abundant amount of opportunities at school, nevertheless, cell phones should not be allowed at school because they are a distraction, provide a negative impact on productivity, and could be used as a cheating device.
After all, education should come first at schools. Schools don 't want to charge for sports, but many have to. " This shows that the schools spend more money on our school supplies so that we can learn but when it comes time to get sports equipment it 's time for parents to help. Why Students Shouldn’t Have to Wear School Uniforms Regan Narine couldn't have been more eager to get through his first day of 3rd grade at Athlos Leadership Academy- “I was excited to meet my teacher, get new friends but instead I was sent home.” He and his little brother Rayshawn were pulled from class in the morning for not wearing the school logo on their shirts. US schools with a minority student population of 50% or more are four times as likely to require uniforms than schools with a minority population of 20%-49% and 24 times more likely than schools with minority populations of 5%-19% (US Department). What if a child decides not to work on the assignment and uses their phone inappropriately when they aren 't supposed to? From phones to cars, electronics are quickly becoming a large part of today’s society. Children as young as ten are walking down the sidewalk carrying the latest iPhone, and laptops are mandatory at many schools across America, even though too much screen time can be dangerous to their growth. Because electronics such as phones, TV’s, computers, and more play such a major role in society, risks like health problems, decreased socialization, and electronic addiction are overlooked - which is why screen time should be limited for children. Health problems surface when children are on electronics for too long. Studies reveal that when put in front of a screen for long periods of time, a child’s retina cells can be severely damaged.
Some of the reasons are practicality, GPS tracking for parents to know where their kids are, and safety. The first main advantage for parents to consider buying their kids a smartphone is the practicality of phones. For example, in today’s busy world where parents work many hours of the day and teens busy doing their homework and school activities. Most parents want to be connected with their child due to being able to call them if there being late or picking them up from school. An easy way to do that is getting your child a phone Furthermore, I have personally dealt with this issue myself back when I did not have a phone.
