CASE STUDY: EFFECT OF HYDROTHERAPY AND EXERCISES ON SPASTIC CEREBRAL PALSY ABSTRACT Purpose: To analyze the effect of exercise and hydrotherapy on spastic cerebral palsy. Method: A six year old girl with spastic cerebral palsy participated in programme and she was given exercise therapy and hydrotherapy initially for 2 weeks and then follow up was done for 4 weeks with treatment given on alternate days. Result:The child demonstrated improvement in ADL’S,there was marked reduction in spasticity. Conclusion: Exercises in water is beneficial as unique quality of buoyancy of water and diminishes the effect of gravity that reduces jointloading and impact and decreases the negative influence of poor balance and poor postural control. It provides variety of benefits such as increased range of motion, and strength …show more content…
INTRODUCTION Cerebral palsy is a chronic disorder caused by static lesion to the immature brain that is characterized by deficits in movement and postural control.Because of impairments such as weaknessspasticity and in coordination, many child with cerebral palsy have difficulty with activities such as ADL’S,functional task such as gait1.Over time ,it was realized that atypical motor patterns became established through practice and experience in the competition of motor patterns2influenced by musculoskeletalcomponents3.Through the development of the sciences of motor control and motor learning, the hierarchical reflex model of motor control adopted by bobath has been replaced by more dynamic approach.4-7Improving one’s ability to walk or to perform other functional activities are often primary therapeutic goals for children with cerebral palsy. Population based studies around the world report prevalence estimates of cerebral palsy ranging from 1.5 to more than 4 per 1000 live births or children of a defined age range8,9,10,11Spasticity is a major challenge for rehabilitation of cerebral palsy.Spasticity can hamper
Cerebral palsy is a broad term used to describe a group of nonprogressive neurological disorders that impair voluntary movement (NINDS Cerebral Palsy, 2016). It is caused by malformation or damage to the brain during pregnancy or shortly after birth.
Have you ever pulled a muscle or broken a bone? Were you on crutches? Were you not able to walk at all? Imagine feeling like that every single day of your life. Living with cerebral palsy, a disease that limits your body movements, is like that everyday.
Though we serve thousands, that mission exists because of one child. Israel and Danielle Paskowitz founded Surfers Healing because of their son, Isaiah. Isaiah has autism, and when he struggled with meltdowns and sensory overload, riding the waves with his father calmed him like nothing else. Not everyone has a championship surfer for a Dad (bummer!) , so the Paskowitz family invited others to join them at the beach.
Maille completed tasks such as touching her nose with index fingers and eyes closed jumping jacks, jumping in place, pivoting thumb and index fingers, and tapping feet and fingers. Maille showed strength in being able to use both sides of her body while tapping her feet and fingers on same and opposite sides. I did not notice any weakness in Maille with this subtest. Maille scored average in bilateral coordination. Balance is the next subtest under body coordination composite.
The town of Port Orford could benefit from a new park. At this park I think it would be a cool idea to make separate sections for different types and ages of people. This could give the diversity for a large majority of the community to enjoy together. It would be a nice and fun place for everyone to enjoy and use.
During our semester, we learned how kids develop certain motor skills as they get older. By first learning how to kick a ball. Then able to gain enough balance and coordination to jump up and down. As they learn these motor skills their strength, balance, coordination all develop and able them to do more specific movement, such as jumping up and heading a
The implications of these prolonged treatments are explained clearly by S. West, distinguished researcher for rehabilitation in children. He explains that there is a point in which progress will halt and that it is the physician’s job to inform the family that nothing can be done at this point in time. In light of this statement it is clear to me that further treatment of children past the point of progress is not the solution in terms of positive effectiveness, because they yield the opposite intended

The first part of the study involved observing child K’s motor and fine motor skills in her home. First, I would observe her motor skills. To get her more excited, I decided to play with her and her sister. At 4 years of age, child K should be enjoying the movements of hopping, jumping, and running while be more adventurous than they were at 3 years of age (Santrock, pg. 158, 2012). Obviously, at age 4, she has already learned how to walk and run on her own.
What treatments are used and what is included in the sessions all depends of the nature of the condition. Common activities include massage therapy, stretching and exercising and the use of technology such as lasers and ultrasound. Hydrotherapy and electrotherapy sessions may also be included in the treatment programme. During the initial treatment, at the beginning of the two weeks, the physio may carry out a series of tests.
Why Students Should have a Longer Lunch Did you know that kids in France have a two hour lunch break? In Germany they also have a two hour lunch where kids go home to eat hot lunches with their families. They get a break, exercise, and a home cooked meal. Germany is ranked 1st and France is ranked 8th in the world for education by U.S. News. American school systems limit lunchtime to an extent that kids have to scarf down their food which is very unhealthy.
Care During Labor and Delivery: The Outcomes of Hydrotherapy As expectant women seek non-pharmacologic methods of pain management, hydrotherapy is a good start. The practice of using submersion in water for alternative pain relief is referred to as hydrotherapy. Hydrotherapy can help provide an environment optimal for a gentle, physiologic birth. This paper will explore the efficacy of hydrotherapy as a pain management tool in labor and how hydrotherapy influences the outcomes of deliveries.
CHAPTER V DISCUSSION The aim of this study was to assess the distress and coping of patients with selected cancers undergoing radiation therapy. A descriptive design was used in this study .The investigator used the distress thermometer to assess the distress and the Jalowiec coping scale to assess the coping of patients with selected cancers undergoing radiation therapy. The data collected was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics Demographic data:-
According to Cynthia Lightfoot, author of “The development of the children”, “young children’s fine motor skills improve notably and early childhood is marked by impressive gains in both gross and fine motor skills”. Daniel’s
Playing roller skating is a risky sport to children. Rollershoes include two or four wheels which children is out of control, so all of people who play the sport must fall down many times before practice well and children are no exception. Furthermore, the place where children play roller skating is hard concrete ground, If children are out of balance or about to fall, they always protect themselves by hands supporting ground, and therefore, their hands will cause various level of injury. Not only that, but also it is likely to deal to children’s lower limb skeletal dysplasia. There are some experts said that if children play roller skating too early, it will influence children’s lower limb growth because children’s foot are always too small to select unsuitable rollershoes, so that their foot often inclined to one side and over time, foot will be not straight more and
