Architecture has been defined as “a multi-disciplinary profession requiring a combination of artistic technological and sociological expertise”. It is a deep expression of human civilization in a particular era and it will endure and outlive us in forms of monuments that future generations will study and strive to understand. All architects represent a great force in our society because architecture is as well an expression of the strengths of the society as well as their technological progress. Architecture is a form of visual art that creates irrevocable works. Human value this art so much because it’s a permanent expression of the society values, desires, ways of thinking and ideals, ideology and many other things in a fixed point in time. It is like a reflection in the mirror, a way society sees itself as well as how it sees the environment, nature and finally, this world. This is why even buildings used for the most mundane of purposes transform into a work of art in the hands of a gifted architect. Moreover, certain architectural wonders, be it a house or a public building like a museum, bears the signature of the architect. They reflect the architect’s personality and beliefs. However, architecture is also science because a building design has to be within the realms of rational thinking: It cannot ignore reality and its boundaries. For example, a house addresses the need for shelter, a basic human necessity. It has to be functional, durable, sustainable and affordable. Ensuring these qualities needs empirically tested and validated
In Andrew Braaksma’s essay “Lessons from the Assembly Line” (Braaksma, 2005), he recalls his time as a free-spirited college student that moonlights as an automotive assembly plant worker during summer vacation. The essay shifts from his grueling experiences on the line to his easygoing life as a student, highlighting the disparity between the two worlds. Ultimately, he comes to a better understanding of the advantages he has in life while simultaneously recognizing that real-world experience is another useful form of education. The main points of Braaksma’s article are showcasing the life struggles of the average blue-collar worker and underscoring the importance of a formal education.
After re-reading "Some Lessons From The Assembly Line" by Andrew Braaksma (2005), and the critical thinking analysis that I had previously submitted. Braaksma 's purpose in writing the article hasn 't changed. Braaksma came to an important realization about how fortunate he was, based on harsh life experiences. While reviewing this article and using some of the techniques identified in this course, the original goal previously identified stays the same. Braaksma 's purpose in writing this piece was to point out his realization to how fortunate he was based on his opportunities.
Taking art 1301 was one of the best decisions in my life, because I learned the true meaning of art, history plays a important part in art and there is art everywhere. I discovered that the art museum had so many great paintings and some of the artwork comes from the old times, like during the world war I and II , I did not know the museum would have amazing historical artwork. One thing I noticed is that some artist have created the same type of artwork they use one skill for all their paintings or statue for example Fred Wilson created the “ Were ancient Egyptians black, white,or brown” his artwork has the same faces created five time, but the only difference is the color of the statue. He used the same technics, which makes his art
The development of modern day architecture is very fascinating. Even though it has a very significant difference to architecture in the past, it still has many similarities. Many famous buildings we have today still show the same basic designs. For example, the Lincoln Memorial is very similar to the Parthenon.
He believed that the absence of important buildings and architectural sophistication in American society would undermine social authority. Overall the building connects America with the past but also portrays Thomas Jefferson’s hope
Author Rasmussen’s book Experiencing Architecture further elaborates on this architectural experience by emphasizing “You must observe how it was designed for a special
Mankind has always faced many natural obstacles, one of them being the harsh elements of the weather. In order to protect themselves, humans began to build shelters to keep warm and survive. This acted as the roots that gave rise to the industry of architecture. As time has passed and societies have come and gone, the advancements in architecture have continued to grow, but never again has there been a time more influential and lasting on architecture than the era of the Greeks and Romans. Their architectural achievements revolutionized modern architecture in a way that is still being used to this day.
New designs have been adopted since the onset of architecture, and thus, with the concentration of a history of architecture, new phenomenon and innovations are realized that would help in further explanation and address of other necessities in the same sector. A concentration in the History of architecture and landscape architecture as a course incorporates more than one element of
Utilizing that knowledge in architectural and urban design can guide architecture towards a more humane experience.
A civilization’s architecture not only shows the artistic skills of its designers and builders but also the functionality of its engineers, the power of its government, and the inventiveness of its people. Architecture was a crucial element to the success of two major cites in Europe, Rome and Athens. Each city had structures consisting of formal architecture like temples and basilicas showing the influence that its leaders had over each city, while utilitarian buildings like bridges and aqueducts helped build communication between distant cities throughout each empire. Though architecture as a whole was an important role in unifying the cities, the architecture design within each illustrates the similarities and differences between two.
Gottfried Semper was a major figure in the field of Interior designing. He was an architect and an art critic who contributed majorly to the study of interiors .He proposed his ideas and thoughts in his book, “Four elements of architecture”, in the year 1952 and it was a huge success. In his book, he developed the theory that origin of architecture could be dated back to the primitive era when human civilization was at its peak. As compared to the modern ideology that architecture consists of structures made from materials, his theory revolved around the four main elements of the primitive era that were essential to human life.
• Highly profitable business. • Robustly developed sales and distribution network. Weaknesses • Heavy investment in R&D. • High marketing and communication costs. • There are cities in where they are not present yet (like Montrose).
Tectonics is defined as the science or art of construction, both in relation to use and artistic design. It refers not just to the activity of making the materially requisite construction that answers certain needs but rather to the activity that raises this construction as an art form. It is concerned with the modeling of material to bring the material into presence - from the physical into the meta-physical world (Maulden, 1986). Since tectonics is primarily concerned with the making of architecture in a modern world, its value is seen as being a partial strategy for an architecture rooted in time and place therefore beginning to bring poetry in construction. Tectonics, however, has the capacity to create depth-ness of context resulting in the implicit story being told by the tectonic expression.
In the times of modern design, art and design has already become a part of our life and plays important roles in our society. Design not only decorates our society and living places, but also brings us a well-rounded life and makes our life become more colourful. Design is a great benefit that would not cause any negative issues to our society. So can you imagine how boring and dull will be if does not exist any art and design in our daily life? Can you imagine how our life will be in the future?
According to architect Renzo Piano architecture happens when all the resources participate makes it a ‘dangerous activity’ that is in constant limbo.
