In “Stop the sun” by Gary Paulsen, The character Terry changes from a boy who is embarrassed by his dad’s disease to a boy who thinks of his dad and accept his dad . This change reveals the story’s theme, which is in order to understand the people who we love order to understand the people who love you have to think of them and have empathy. In the beginning of the story, Terry is an embarrassed boy because of his dad disease,. At this point in the story, Gary writes, “ Wanting only for the earth to open and let him drop in a deep hole”[3]. This passage is important because it reveals just how Terry is embarrassed by his father 's actions in the hardware store. Later in the story, though, he makes a change.
