A few years ago I moved out of my hometown and ended up attending a new school. The new school was much nicer than my old one. It was freshly rebuilt with brand-new floors. The whole place looked more modern than the old-fashioned building I used to go to. At the new school, the people dressed and acted differently. Everyone there seemed to have money and was able to afford the nicer clothes. The students were much judgier than in my old school you had to dress and act like them to make any friends. So that's what I did. In lord of the flies, by William Golding, shows that when people are confronted by new surroundings they will change with them. While reading you watch the boys change to fit their surroundings so they can survive. Ralph says, “There aren’t any grownups. We shall have to look after ourselves.” (Golding 31) This quote illustrates why the boys how to grow and mature to be able to survive on the island. If they didn’t change they would not have lived as long as they did. It was important that the boys realized that they were going to have to take care of themselves so they could take care of themselves. Piggy says, “What are we? Humans? Or animals? It shows how quickly humans will adapt to new surroundings. Kreitzer states in the article, “Since the earliest times, humans have needed to be sensitive to their surroundings to survive, which means that we have an innate awareness of our environment and seek out environments with certain qualities.” (Kreitzer 1) Kreitzer depicts in this article that humans adapt to their surroundings because it is of our nature. Since the earliest times, humans have adapted to different ways of living. If humans didn’t do that the human population may not have existed for this long. That's why it is so important for people to change with their surroundings. If the boys didn’t change with the environment not as many of them would have lived. The article establishes, “The environment can facilitate or discourage interactions among people (and the subsequent benefits of social support).” (Kreitzer) This quote highlights why the boys started to act as they did on the island. The boys were used to a good environment with a home and always having access to food or water and went to a more hostile environment where they had to work for what they needed and keep themselves safe. This is most likely what caused the boys to start to act aggressively toward one
