Changing Immigration Policy In Canada

Immigration has been and will continue to happen all around the world. There are so many reasons for people who come from different countries and ethnicities to move from country to country. The reasons why these people immigrate is either they are simply forced to, due to violence and hostility or that they are in search of a better life for them, and or their family etc. Canada being rated number one in quality of life has been a goal for people wanting to immigrate. The Immigration and Refugee Protection Act ( IRPA) was established by the Canadian government in the year 2002.

In the past, Canada 's immigration policy had been discriminatory. Throughout the 20th century, the exclusivity of immigration in our country has evolved positively from the Chinese Exclusion Act, to the Changing Immigration Policy and lastly, the Immigration Act. To begin, the exclusivity of immigration in Canada has changed positively due to the Chinese Exclusion Act. This act is also known as the Chinese Immigration Act was passed in 1923. This act banned all people of Chinese nationality from immigrating to Canada.

Canada is the land of diversity. There are people from almost country here it is believed that about one in five women and girls who live in Canada were born in another country. There are a lot of women that migrate to Canada every year. “Immigrant women are often uprooted from their native countries against their will and come to find themselves trapped in abusive relationships without any means of emotional, financial or legal support”. “These women usually have no one to turn to for support other than the aggressor and/or his family.

I came to Canada a year ago. As a new emigrant I faced many challenges, that has changed my life. When I arrived with my family in Canada, my parents had a small deposit that just supported us, as a family, for a few months. After that, my parents could not find job due to lack of English proficiency. Canada’s government help us with a small amount of money that helped us to live.

Canada is seen to be one of the greatest countries in the world to live in. This is thought to be true since Canada is one of the most multicultural countries in the world. Canada is seen to have a higher standard of living than most of the countries where individuals are migrating from. Canada also provides a sense of some type of future, may it be school or work. Many individuals examine all the positives of immigrating to Canada and in conclusion each year there are hundreds of thousands individuals immigrating to Canada for numerous reasons.

Immigrants are making a life in the United States and working in jobs without background checks. Everyday immigrants are in danger that the immigration Agency to find Immigrants working in their jobs or in their homes. The Immigration Agency does not like the fact Immigrants crossed the border without any papers to come to the U.S. Immigrants in the United States are afraid of the Immigration Agency because of the rough tactics the Immigration Agency does to sometimes arresting Immigrants. When sometimes the Immigration Agency thinks all immigrants are all criminals which gives the immigration agency an excuse to arrest innocent immigrants. , but not all are bad.

Canada is a multicultural country. As a lot of people have immigrated to Canada from different parts of the world, they brought some cultural elements of their native culture along with them. These cultural elements have been blended into the mainstream culture of Canada. With so much diverse population, it is natural that people will be ethnocentric.

Canada was the first country to adopt multiculturalism and has since cultivated a society that focuses on the benefits of diversity and encourages racial and ethnic harmony. In fact, in an article by Keung in The Star, Canada ranked fourth most welcoming country for immigrants in the world. This was seen as the reason behind higher rates of naturalization as individual rights are being championed and immigrants are guaranteed equality. Now, with Justin Trudeau from the Liberal Party as Prime Minister, the world can expect reforms in Canada’s Immigration System that would be more sympathetic to refugees and immigrants. Immigration has always been a major part of American history. Each year, hundreds of thousands of people travel to the United States in search of a better life. Of the 1.49 million immigrants who traveled to the United States in 2016, 150,400 immigrants were from Mexico. There have also been many people from Mexico who have immigrated illegally to America, with 5.6 million Mexican unauthorized immigrants living in the U.S. in 2015 and 2016. The large scale of immigration, both legal and illegal, has brought up issues such as national security and the U.S. economy.

The state of Immigration in the United States has effected the way that citizens interact with their governmental system. In the eyes of the majority, Immigration has put a huge strain on local economies, in the process of draining the Federal Reserve’s due to new immigration laws and reformations. While they are not completely right, they are also not completely wrong. In 2010, there were 39.9 million foreign born people in the United States; Forty four percent were naturalized citizens, 24 percent were legal permanent residents, 29 percent were unauthorized migrants and 3 percent were temporary legal residents (such as students or temporary workers) (Federation for American Reform 2013).

Immigration in the past few decades have grown within the world as many are fleeing their own countries for others, by both legal and illegal means. However, with such a large influx of immigrants, this has put a notable strain on the receiving countries. Thus raising the question of what can be done and what to do with those who have illegally entered the country. In the United States the issue of illegal immigration and immigrants has progressively worsened, splitting the citizen’s opinion between either allowing them to stay or deporting every illegal within the country. On November 20, 2014 President Obama gave a speech to answer such questions with his immigration reform.
