Social media is changing constantly in front of our faces, and humans are so oblivious we barely notice it. Social media is almost apart of everything you do or participate in, it is nearly impossible to deny or hide from all the new forms. Nowadays, this is the key element to socialization with peer groups. For example, it is used to market and motivate people to become a part of other communities, with social media constantly growing, it is starting to change the way people communicate, find and share information. Many websites offer communication through Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, YouTube, LinkedIn and various other platforms. Social media is not just used for entertainment, kids and teenagers can be creative, interact, and learn from this platform, utilizing it in everyday life. Social networking presents another way to get students from middle school to college aged interested in learning school material. Social media is important to the teenage culture. It gives them an outlet and adds another way for them to stay connected, with peers they have met through school, sports teams, and church. This platform can help teenagers with insecurities, for example shy people would consider interacting with peers on social media rather than face-to-face. Even though there are multiple positive features of social media, the downside effects on kids and teenagers are huge. For example, using social media for an over allotted amount of time throughout the day can affect a person’s mental health. While their level of contentment can decrease; bad behaviors, depression and stress can increase. Another huge problem that social media has is the effect of cyberbullying on teenagers.
