A Chaos and Confusion
Sometimes control may be needed but it can also lead to chaos. A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare is about a couple who is forbidden from love and they decide to sneak into a forest and things don't really go as planned. Multiple Characters in this story are guilty of controlling other people. A controlling Father, A jealous king, And an overconfident clown but if it wasn't for Egues trying to control Hermia no chaos would have been caused.
It begins with Egues talking to Hermia and saying that if she didn't marry who he wanted her to she would die. While Egues is trying to control Hermia he says, "As she is mine, I may dispose of her, Which shall be either

Multiple Characters in this story are guilty of controlling other people. It begins with Egues talking to Hermia and saying that if she didn't marry who he wanted her to she would die. While Egues is trying to control Hermia he says, "As she is mine, I may dispose of her, Which shall be either to this gentleman Or to her death, according to our law" 1.1 43-45. How does this evidence support your claim? When Egues tells Hermia that she has to marry who he chooses or he will have her killed she runs away to fall in love with lysander leading to them getting mixed up with others in the woods. Egues is telling Hermia that she has to marry Demetrius because he does not approve of lysander. Egues is talking to Hermia and he says, “Full of vexation come I, with complaint Against my child, my daughter Hermia.— Stand forth, Demetrius.” 1.1.23-25. How does this evidence support your claim? When Egues is talking to Hermia he tells her that it is his choice of who she gets to marry and she doesn't like that decision so she runs away with lysander leading to them meeting demetrius and helena. By Egeus not allowing
Orestes describes to the jurors, “I drew my sword – more I cut her throat. (page 257, Eumenides)” Instead of denying the act, he incites that Apollo said it was a good idea and that his mom totally deserved it. The Furies reject the later, saying how Clytaemestra didn't kill family, “The blood of the man she killed was not her own. (page 258, Eumenides)”
In William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, Hermia's love triangle with Lysander and Demetrius is a complex interplay of both fate and agency. Throughout the play, Hermia demonstrates a strong sense of agency in shaping her own romantic fate, while also being subject to the whims of fate and the supernatural forces at play. One example of Hermia's agency is her defiance of her father's wishes for her to marry Demetrius. In Act 1, Scene 1, she says, "I do entreat your grace to pardon me. /
Macbeth, in the play of the same name by William Shakespeare, preformed this heinous act. Thus, the play is about his decent to tyranny and madness. The story is set in Scotland during the early Medieval period. In the
In the play, we see this when Egeus tries to interfere with the love of Hermia and Lysander. Egeus states that Hermia must marry Demetrius, become a nun, or get killed. Egeus trying to control Hermia leads to the decision of Hermia and Lysander deciding to run away. In scene one, it states, "It’s true, rude Lysander, I do love him. That’s why I’m giving him my daughter.
This over protective love shown by Egeus and the Law are both obstacles that result in the friendship and love between them not running
Macbeth by William Shakespeare is a play that explores the nature of power, ambition, and guilt. Everybody wants to do something great with their lives, to have a sense of power and accomplishment. Whether it be becoming a scientist, a musician to make the world more peaceful, or even becoming president, but some people interpret power a little differently. As the play progresses, Lady Macbeth attempts to become like the amoral witches in their appearance and manipulation of Macbeth to achieve power for her and Macbeth. However, Lady Macbeth is affected by her actions, her conscience is troubled and her guilt torments her.
Macbeth, written by William Shakespeare, is a rather bloody and demiseful tale. Although the characters of the play all have different emotions the main theme is based on greed and suffrage of one’s actions. The main character, Macbeth, is ridden with guilt and greed, while Lady MacBeth is very controlling and demanding. Macbeth's curiosity led to a great demise for both him and Lady Macbeth. Throughout the play, Macbeth’s actions are being controlled by the emotions of curiosity, guilt, and fear.
The play Macbeth by William Shakespeare is a tale of murder and revenge. When Macbeth is given a prophecy by three witches, his wife Lady Macbeth makes him take action immediately so that the prophecies can come true. This leads Macbeth and Lady Macbeth to do things they will later regret. The actions that take place in this play are controlled by many different emotions. Lady Macbeth is driven by the emotions of greed, anger, and guilt in the play.
Macbeth by William Shakespeare is a play concerning the desire for power and the developing insanity that follows. Often Lady Macbeth rejects any raw emotion from Macbeth including reactions that were tied to femininity. Lady Macbeth abuses her power over Macbeth to manipulate him by challenging his masculinity. Any signs of sensitivity or remorse were cast aside and were regenerated with deranged reactions because that was more socially acceptable. The toxic masculinity strongly enforced by social standards and more so by Lady Macbeth results in Macbeth acquiring some demented characteristics.
In Athens, they wouldn 't be aloud to get married because of aEgeus’ wishes, but in the forest, his wishes go out the window and they can do whatever they
“ I beg the ancient privilege of Athens: as she is mine, I may dispose of her, which shall either be with this fine gentleman (Demetrius) or to her death according to our law, immediately provided in that case” (1.1.45-48). Hermia wishes to marry her true love Lysander, who in turn loves her as well; however, even though he is as good a man as Demetrius, status-wise, Hermia’s father, Egeus, would rather kill her or turn her into a nun than let Hermia control her life. This practice was widely done by the Elizabethans. Daughters had no choice but to marry the man their father
In the real world, love is a very fragile force. Love can be easily broken and manipulated by multiple other outside forces. In A Midsummer Night’s Dream, the two most basic themes are the chaos and order that are the causes of all the actions that take place. Chaos versus order in A Midsummer Night’s Dream also is a representation of Yin and Yang. Yin, represents the bad or darkness in the world, this is the chaos in the play.
Although her father, Egeus, said that there would be major consequences if she did not marry him, Hermia did not care, and went against her fathers wishes by refusing to marry Demetrius because of her love for Lysander. Hermia says, “So will I grow, so live, so die, my lord, Ere I will my virgin patent up Unto his lordship, whose unwished yoke My soul consents not to give sovereignty” (1.1.85). Hermia refuses to marry Demetrius and surrender her virginity to him. She doesn't want to give up her happiness or her love for Lysander by obeying her fathers harsh rules.
Despite placing the blame for this situation on Lysander, saying that it was with cunning that he "flinch'd my daughter's heart, turn'd her obedience...to stubborn harshness"(line 37,38) and that he "bewitched the bosom of my child" (line 28), Egeus does not suggest that any punishment should be put forth for Lysander for interfering with the planned marriage. This could be that because Lysander is not part of Egeus' family, Egeus does not have control over Lysander; it could also be that Egeus believes that a truly obedient daughter would follow her father's command regardless of any other person's
A story of tragedy is not uncommon with William Shakespeare and his works of prose. In his plays, death and despair is more likely than honor and prosperity. This is an included facet to Macbeth as well, having sinister themes of greed, manipulation, and brutality. Macbeth, by the infamous playwright, Shakespeare, presents us with multiple aspects factoring into whether the main character controls his actions that lead to the tragic events.
