In the story, “The Most Dangerous Game”, by Richard Connell, the darker action was when Rainsford killed General Zaroff. Richard Connell’s characters in the story follow the actions that were based off Charles Darwin’s theory of survival of the fittest. In “The Most Dangerous Game”, the darker action was Rainsford killing General Zaroff. The intention for this was because of their agreement.

Throughout the text we come across a dark suspense which ends in one man’s victory and the defeat of an undefeated man. Rainsford, a hunter who is traveling with a friend through a dangerous island known as “Ship-Trap Island” when he suddenly falls into the sea and must swim to that mysterious island for shelter. There he is welcomed by General Zaroff, a hunter and comes to discover that he has lost the thrill for hunting animals and has now created a new “animal” to hunt, humans. Rainsford is forced to play this dangerous game with the General in order to stay alive.

A Gruesome Hunt When discussing the act of hunting, many refer to the sport of as a way of keeping the population of animal species down; most would agree that nothing else should be hunted except animals. In Richard Connell’s, “The Most Dangerous Game”, Rainsford, a hunter and the protagonist, falls overboard from his ship and becomes lost at sea. He eventually comes across an island named Ship-Trap Island, which he finds to be inhabited. Rainsford then meets the antagonist, General Zaroff, who hunts human beings as animal game, and makes Rainsford his next victim. Characters in literature overcome obstacles by being resourceful, assessing the situation calmly and logically, and using the environment around them.
Arrogance can result in many shapes and structures. Confidence comes and goes, leaving a strong and outgoing person to lead, or a weak person who will become blind to the strengths of others. Throughout time different stories have been read. Some of which are relatable, while others not so much. Arrogance, a common relatable subject that can control who someone is and how they act at times.
This scene is significant because Rainsford kills Zaroff, accomplishing his goal of surviving while on the island.. The author again uses revealing actions since, on page 22 not only does connell’s story not come out and tell you Zaroff is dead, but it also shows how Rainsford accomplished his goal of surviving. “The general made a deep bow. In The Most Dangerous Game by Richard Connell “You 're a big game hunter, not a philosopher. Who cares how a jaguar feels?" said Rainsford. Some people think that they are in higher rank. Other meaning they think they are masters and other people are slaves. So they don’t care how the other feel, they only think about satisfied themselves and gratification their needs.
The story being set on a secluded island allows General Zaroff to immorally hunt other humans without being reprimanded. If set in another place, the writer may not have been able to effectively achieve this plot. The island allows Rainsford to use his superlative hunting skills to avoid being captured. After finding one of Rainsford’s traps, Zaroff says, “If you are within the sound of my voice, as I suppose you are, let me congratulate you. Not many men know how to make a Malay man-catcher” (76).
