Chapters 1-19 In chapter one at Columbine High School, the principal Frank DeAngelis, tells all of his students to be careful, not only because it is a weekend but also because it is prom weekend. Everyone knows that the weekend of prom can be fun but yet dangerous at the same time. In chapter two, Eric Harris, which is a very important person at this school, and in the book, usually had no problems at all getting dates, but this time said otherwise. He was becoming desperate for a date for the weekend activity. Eric had a friend, Dylan Klebold saw each as being rebels. Dylan, who had long hair and braided was more believable over Eric which might have been a lead to some problems. Both Dylan and Eric were very intelligent senior …show more content…
They had all the details set up and divided into three stages. They were sure that their plans would work, but the question is, does it really go as planned? The first of their plans was to set bombs off in the lunchroom when most students were going to be there, this would be the worst of the shooting. The second of plans was for Dylan and Eric to be at their cars out in the parking lot, parked to where they could shoot the ones coming out the doors, without getting in the way of each other. After the boys were to do this, they would set off a massive bomb coming from the cars, taking out the law enforcement, E.M.T help, or any others that could possibly get in their way. The day of their plan came and went only because the two did not think they would have enough ammunition for the plan to actually work. The action of them both would leave people in shock and want to know why they did it so they had to come up with some type of explanation. They both kept vivid details of everything, before and after the shooting had happened. The massacre took place, April 20, …show more content…
The boys made their run into a grocery store to grab the final necessity, such as the tanks. Students and teachers noticed that neither Eric or Dylan was in class that day and started to wonder about it. Finally, they showed up to school and parked as planned around eleven o’clock that morning. Friends told Eric about missing some assignments in a class, his response is what made everything change. Eric said it does not matter and went on with matters while urging the friend to go home. They thought by leaving a decoy bomb at a different location would take attention off of the school, so they could start the actual massacre. The time they planned for the bombs to go off did not go through only because of arriving to school later than
Eric Harris was a teen psychopath that did not have plans for the future except his plans for the massacre. Dick Hickock was also a psychopath that had a criminal record, which consisted of writing bad checks and petty theft. The motives, the ways of manipulation, and the faults in their plans are a few things that make Eric and Dick different. In Eric’s plan, he did not target anyone specific.
The Owen Labrie Case Police When the young girl was assaulted on May 30, 2014, she did not come forward right away. She waited a while. This young woman then called her mother sobbing, so the mother went to the school immediately and figured the situation out. Not only were the police investigating the possible assault, but they were also looking at the ritual that these boys had planned for so many years (Shworm, 2015). The senior boys at St. Paul High School would try to have sex with younger girls, particularly freshmen, before they graduated.
The three teens all worked at the same local store, however, so contact was not lost completely. Weeks before the attack, Eric confessed to Zack that he and Dylan had acquired 2 double barreled shotguns; this concerned Zack, but he did not act on the information. Perhaps Zack did not see anything exceedingly abnormal, or maybe he did not want to get involved in Eric’s plans. Eric did not mention the weapons again to Zack, probably due to concern over information getting spilled to police or parents (311). On the day of the attack, Zack told Robyn Anderson that he knew about the pipe bombs, but was completely unaware of the guns (88).
They planned on the bombs doing most of the work, but after the malfunction of both bombs, Dylan and Eric became restless and began to barge in the school and shoot people who got in their way. They entered through the west doors and made their way to the cafeteria and
believe a possible theme would be to always be prepared. Throughout the book, we can see that Columbine was completely unprepared. They did not have a set plan of what to do so students and teachers were running around panicking. This is one of the reasons that there were so many casualties.
Short-Term Impact The University was immediately shut down after three hours of the shooting. The school didn 't open until six weeks later to complete the semester. University faculties plead students to end the protest so less lives would be lost. Many colleges and universities across the United States cancelled classes for the remainder of the academic year in fear of violent protests erupting on their campuses. Long-Term
I believe the biggest misconception I had about school shooters is their feelings, or what I assumed is a lack of. What I have learned about the feelings of school shooters is that there is typically a guiding factor or initial issue that festers in someone. Said issue causes this person or group of people to act out. From what I have observed, these students typically have the brightest futures yet remain the most misunderstood of all students. Most of these students who carry out shootings killing themselves in the end, giving them a lifetime worth of attention they were clearly seeking without any repercussions for their actions.
The passage opens with an examination of Eric’s thoughts in the months before Columbine happened, which can be viewed from numerous passages Eric left behind in his journals. Eric continuously talks about how he will need to suppress his emotions in order to be able to go through with the attack. Cullen is quick to use pathos in order to get readers involved with Eric’s emotions, or lack of, at that time. He takes readers on a journey into Eric's mind as he displays some of the most apathetic lines Eric ever wrote. Cullen points out that “It was a mark of Eric’s ruthlessness that he comprehended the pain and consciously fought the urge to spare it” (276).
Near the end book, kids at there school wanted to do something so I they decided to help. Jill stated to Quinn. “ some of the student clubs at school were planning a protest march on Friday. It would start on the West Side, go right by Jerry’s, and wind its way through town to city hall and Police Plaza 1.
Sue Klebold had a hard time believe in the beginning that her son had something to do with the shooting. She wanted to believe it was a prank that went wrong or that someone forced him to do it. Where Eva knew from the beginning that Kevin was a problem child and knew he would lash outward one day. Sue also though that throughout her son 's life, he was a gentle, loving person; Eva on the other hand never really liked her son. I think Dylan’s friend, Eric, was more like Kevin in the sense that he was more homicidal than suicidal.
Eric wanted to kill as many people as possible, which would also affect their families. His way of manipulation was by letting everyone know that he was doing better in school and improving his behavior. Once he realized that the bombs were not going off, he decided to go in and start shooting.
Columbine, by Dave Cullen is a non-fiction book documenting the horrific massacre which took place in Littleton, Colorado on April 20, 1999. Not only does the writer give great detail about the shooting itself, he also gives and in depth look into the lives of the killers, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, and their victims. The focus of this book is for the author to attempt to bring to light what really happened and hopefully gain better understanding as to why it all took place. Cullen, a journalist, begins an extensive nine year research in order to achieve awareness of the happenings before, during and after this tragic event. Entries from the perpetrators personal journals, stories from the ones who witnessed the shootings first hand, countless interviews from the victim’s families, as well as multiple other pieces of information give the reader an extremely up close and personal surrounding Columbine.
The documentary ‘Bowling for Columbine’ was put into production shortly after the shooting at Columbine High school and in it Michael Moore explores the reasoning behind America’s violent nature. Moore’s belief as too why there are more shootings in America is due to the relaxed gun laws in place in America. To show his point of view he uses a variety of persuasive techniques such as: visuals, audio/music, use of archival footage, political agenda/bias and scenes from various other documentaries. All of which he expertly strings together to influence the facts and opinions of other people.
Argumentative Essay In the USA, there is an overwhelming number of children are dying every day, influencing a great deal of money that is spent, while the topic of gun control is discussed as a solution for these events. There is a big talk about deciding if creating more gun control laws is the right decision to prevent more events of gun violence. Everyone knows that gun control laws are not a realistic solution because guns don't kill people. Gun control is not the answer to our nation's number of violent shootings; because most of these shootings happen as a result of mental health struggles and also because there is an overwhelming lack of early crisis intervention screening programs as well as a need for better education for caregivers
On April 20, 1999, two disturbed teenage boys Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris began a killing rampage at Columbine High School in the suburban town of Littleton, Colorado. This was considered one of the worst school shootings to occur at that time. In the morning of April 20, before noon, the two juveniles had killed 13 people to include 12 students and 1 teacher; they also wounded another 23 people before turning the guns on themselves. This event would change the theories as to why school shootings would occur. (History)
