Chapter two covered different methods of fractions. Fractions are utilized often in everyday life, and I would venture to say that they are probably used more than most math methods. One of the most interesting concepts as it pertains to fractions are converting improper fractions to mixed fractions. Therefore, the video attachment chosen from youtube covers that and begins with defining improper fractions. The main point was in the instructional video was a fraction is a improper fraction when the numerator is larger than the denominator. Another valid point that was mentioned in this youtube video to assist with converting improper fractions to mixed fractions was to think of fractions as division. Once the two concepts are understood it
A way that you can figure it out is by adding ⅖ to ⅓ you can do that by adding the top to which is 2+1=3 so that would be your numerator usually for the bottom it would stay the same if they both have the same denominator but since it is not the same you have to add those to
Due to the deeper understanding required to successfully execute this portion of the lesson, the higher-level Cognitive Demands for procedures with connections tasker assigned J, K, L and M. In doing mathematics,

Explain in words and use number examples DiNozzo – 4 points - 3. Explain what a fraction means. Tell what the numerator represents, what does the denominator represent and how that makes a fraction part of something. McGee – 6points - 1. Write 5/8 as a decimal and a percent.
In Chapter One, Foster tells how every trip is a quest (except when it’s not). A quest is composed of a quester, who is often young and inexperienced, a place to go, a stated reason to go there, challenges and trials on the way, and a real reason to go there. The place to go and the stated reason to go usually go together; the quester must go somewhere to do something. The real reason for the quest is not the stated reason; it is self-knowledge found because of the trip. Chapter Two describes acts of communion and their significance in literature.
The third chapter through the fifth chapter addresses three specific mathematical areas. These areas are infinity, dimension, and chance. In my opinion, these three subjects are evident by the complexity of mathematics for students that might have otherwise been unaware. “What Does Infinite Mean?” This is the how the authors begin chapter three.
Then I went to the main lesson which I did on the white board and I started with simple two step problems and got up to the four step problems with the parentheses so they could see me do it. After I was done, I had each student come up a couple of time to check their understanding of it, to me they seem to get it really well. I sent them home with homework to post assess them on the following Wednesday when I came back, I was surprised when they turned in the homework on how well they
“One thing is certain: The human brain has serious problems with calculations. Nothing in its evolution prepared it for the task of memorizing dozens of multiplication facts or for carrying out the multistep operations required for two-digit subtraction.” (Sousa, 2015, p. 35). It is amazing the things that our brain can do and how our brain adapt to perform these kind of calculations. As teachers, we need to take into account that our brain is not ready for calculations, but it can recognize patterns.
Description of John Burroughs Middle School: John Burroughs Middle School is a school in the Los Angeles Unified School District. It serves grades six to eight. John Burroughs is located in Hancock Park, which is a suburb of Los Angeles County, Hancock part is west of Koreatown, south of Hollywood, east of Mid-Wilshire, and north of Mid-City. Sylvia, the protagonist, in Toni Cade Bambara’s short story, “The Lesson,” loses her innocence during the realization of how expensive the toys are in the store. The story narrates and experience of a girl who lives in filth in which she and her friends are not currently aware of their situation. Miss Moore a college educated women visits the neighborhood each weekend in which she takes the children to fieldtrips. Miss Moore attempts to teach the students in the beginning of the story the value of money and their current situation but fails. She does this by giving Sylvia five dollars, so she could pay the taxi.
procedural fluency - Students will gain procedural fluency in the lesson through the teacher modeling and guided practice with math concepts. Students will use a variety of manipulatives to achieve a better understanding of how to represent and solve problems involving addition and subtraction within 20. F. Explain how one instructional strategy in your lesson plan (e.g., collaborative learning, modeling, discovery learning) supports learning outcomes. One instructional strategy found throughout my lesson plan is modeling. As the teacher the thinking out loud while moving through the process of solving the problem students are not only hearing my thoughts, they also can mimic the process.
Mother of Education Some children are not as fortunate to be given wonderful lives like their peers. Furthermore, the mother and father of every little boy and little girl do not always set the best examples. In “The Lesson”, Miss Moore seeks to educate the children of the neighborhood. She takes them to a store in town, trying to help them better understand the issues with income inequality. Confidence, intelligence, and passion-- these are all qualities that Miss Moore, a motherly figure, exhibits while impacting the children 's education.
I would constantly refer to both the mnemonic device and guided examples as I verbalized the task. Sixth, I would also use modelling and practice to help my student understand the patterns in solving long division, and support his or her confidence in his or he ability to perform and complete the individual steps of long
This quote proves the interest the children having in learning about these things. Rarely do fourth graders happily discuss arithmetic to any extent. Miss Ferenczi is a positive influence by teaching them to be excited about learning through the stories she tells them.
Math is often one of the hardest subjects to learn. Teachers know rules that can help students, but often they forget that those rules become more nuanced than presented.
