Chapter Two Reading Assignment Terms And Definitions
Timothy Samuel Waddell
The Clinical Method
This method is most commonly used to collect detailed information about people suffering with mental and psychological issues. Clinical psychologist are able to observe people for research, while at the same time also providing expertise and guidance to their clients. When looking at clinical psychology there is a distinct mix between the treatment of mental disease and the science (as well as research methods) of psychology.
Correlation Method
The word correlation means a close link or relationship between two or more objects. More accurately in psychology the correlation method takes two variables and compares them, looking for increases in positivity or negativity. For instance if one item increases while the other decreases, this can be

In most cases a hypothesis needs to explain what you intend to happen during your experimentation process.
Naturalistic Observation
This research method tries to observes its subjects in their natural habitat. Utilizing this method allows for efficient cost, better effects on the subject, and other qualities that just can't be obtained in a lab environment. In most cases the researcher does not interfere with the subject when studying in a naturalistic way. The test results are not easily changed or faked in this setting for instance: people are more likely to act naturally when they don't know they are being watched.
Replication
When comes to the credibility of a study, it is very important to repeat and or have multiple studies on one subject. This process can be referred to as replication, evidence must be tested many times and in many different ways in order to prove its authenticity. Until this process is complete scientist must doubt any of their
According to Dictionary.com (2017), the definition of psychology is: “The scientific study of mental processes and behaviour. The behavioural and cognitive characteristics of a specific individual, group, activity, or circumstance.” Psychology studies human mental functioning and behaviour by the use of systematic, scientific study known as the scientific method. The scientific method is a standardised way of making observations, gathering data, forming theories, testing predictions and interpreting results. Courses.lumenlearning.com (2017) stated that the scientific method is based on the following process: 1.Ask a question.
Lanida Blackwolf Mr. Burton Social Studies May 10, 2017 Key Terms and People: Tariff of Abominations: Name from angry southerners, and what happened as Andrew Jackson was taken office, the congress placed a high tariff on imports. States’ Rights Doctrine: Stated that state power should be greater than federal power because states had formed the national government. Nullification Crisis: A dispute was a conflict between the supporters and the opponents of nullification deepened. Daniel Webster of Massachusetts: Argued about the United States as one nation, not a pact among independent states. McCulloch v. Maryland: Court ruled national bank as constitutional.
In the three chapters that we were suppose to read for homework over the past few nights Jim and others had came up with at least two escape plans that they wanted to try out. One of their plans to escape was to run to a stone school where Church was held and underneath the pulpit was a hole that they hid the n****** until a dentist could take them to Quincy then and then they would go on to Canaan they never got to use that escape plan because the day they were to leave miss Watson had to go get religion so Jim had to take her and at the same time they wanted Sadie to go with them too help a Baptist girl while they were there a storm broke out so they had to spend the night the next morning on the way home trees were down because of the storm
Through observation, an idea has been formulated already but still needs more research about it. Only then, you can form a hypothesis regarding all the collected data. To test the hypothesis' credibility is through experiment. If the results did align with the hypothesis, only then will it be considered as a verified data. If it did not, another hypothesis will be formed then experimented.
Like Psychologist Diana Baumrind did so in her article “Review of Stanley Milgram’s Experiments”. Where she makes it very clear that she disagrees with causing individuals stress and discomfort. In her article, Baumrind states “It is potentially harmful to a subject to commit, on the course of an experiment, acts which he himself considers unworthy, particularly when he has been entrapped into committing such acts by an individual he has reason to trust” which in this case the trustworthy individual would be Stanley Milgram. Baumrind also worried about the dangers of the serious aftereffects that may ensure because of the stress and discomfort Stanley Milgram’s experiment has caused. Even though Stanley Milgram states that “After the interview, procedures were undertaken to assure that the subject would leave the laboratory in a state of well-being.”
Human experimentation can be extensively characterized as anything done to a person to figure out how it will influence him. Its principle target is the procurement of new exploratory information instead of treatment. In the event that a trial is at last advantageous to others or even to the subject himself, this doesn't imply that treatment filled a critical need. Humans have long been used as subjects for a variety of experiments.

The three descriptive research methods that I will discuss are Naturalistic Observation, Survey, and Case Study. Naturalistic Observation is a research method in which people or animals are observed in their natural habitat without any controls or variables. This type of research method may be conducted if you want to see how people truly act without being watched. For example, this research method may be used to determine who are healthier shoppers, men or women? The researcher would go to a food store and take count throughout the day of how many men and women he finds in the fruit and vegetable isles, and how many he find in the snack isles.
The scientific method is defined as procedures to pursuit knowledge while recognizing the formulation of a problem. This method contains six different steps to obtain a theory. Step one make an observations, step two form a question, step three form a hypothesis, step four conduct an experiment, step five analyze data, and finally step six is conclusion. These steps are documented very well so that other scientists researching the same field can refer back to the documentation. Making an observation or asking a question is step one in the scientific method.
The Mythology of Psychology Psychology uses the scientific method to conduct experiments. Research scientists start by asking a question and coming up with a hypothesis, and then they begin to collected data. A research scientist uses many different methods in order to collected data (Bawden 2017). Psychology utilizes case studies, surveying, and observations to help measure correlation (Morling 2015). A correlation coefficient is how research scientist measures the strength of a relationship between two variables in the experiment (Bawden 2017).
When it comes to the science of psychology psychologist are looking deeper into what affects ones behavior and mental health. Looking at the environment, health issues, cognitive, learning, and etc… How does everything affect the overall mental health of a person? 2. Distinguish between a theory, a hypothesis, and an operational definition.
From a criminal justice standpoint I would use the example of the bad cop/good cop concept as a tool used in retrieving information from a suspect during an interrogation process. A set of parents may use this same concept in order to gain information from a child who has done something wrong. Hypothesis To define the term hypothesis I would say that it is the end result of a theory. By this, I mean that a hypothesis entails all that a theory does and is supported by proven tested and statistical research. An example as in relation to criminal justice would be that guns do not kill people; people kill people.
A number of basic standards for determining a body of knowledge, methodology, or practice are widely agreed upon by scientists. One of the basic notion is that all experimental results should be reproducible, and able to be verified by other individuals.[13] This standard aim to ensure experiments can be measurably reproduced under the same conditions, allowing further investigation to characterize whether a hypothesis or theory related to given phenomena is valid and reliable. Philosopher Karl Popper (?) in one of his project attempted to draw the line between science and pseudo-science.
If someone searches human experimentation online it will tell you that human experimentation can be broadly defined as anything done to an individual to learn how it will affect him or her afterwards. Experimentation on a human being is the experimentation of humans to help find cures and to help fight off things like illnesses or diseases. It can also help provide us with the medicine and knowledge of what medication should be used to treat the injury or illness medication treats things. Like headaches, sore muscles, injuries, and many more things. There is a lot of debate over human experimentation and whether it is right, if it works, or if it is needed at all.
Reason is applying logic, to constitute and validate factual claims, stemming from new and existing information. Scientific knowledge can be acquired through the most conventional forms such as inductive and deductive reasoning. It is deemed reliable when predictions are faultless, leading to credible scientific knowledge with consistency and repeatability. Reliability is that relevant results must be intrinsically repeatable, resulting in a logical true conclusion. Although using reason as a way of obtaining information is used often, there are limitations that make this way of knowing not as reliable as we think it is.
