When authors write a book they usually follow the steps of characterizing a character, creating a tone, or developing a theme using different writing techniques. These techniques are evident in All American Boys when Rashad goes to Jerry’s to buy himself some chips and accidentally bumps into a lady. The worker at the store mistook his open duffel bag as him stealing which caught the cop's attention. The cop also mistook him for trying to steal some chips due to the way his duffel bag was placed, eventually restraining him. In the text, All American Boys by Jason Reynolds and Brendan Kiely the authors characterized both Rashad and the cop using word choice, figurative language, and sensory details to demonstrate the problems black men face against white police officers. The authors use word choice to highlight a narrative that is seen when black people deal with cops. The use of words seen by the authors helps to paint more of a negative tone to the reader to help them understand the situation in a different light. As Rashad tried to explain to the cop what happened his “hands were already up, a reflex from seeing a cop coming toward me (Kiely Reynolds 21).” The negative tone in this quote shows us the almost everyday procedure that black people respond to because of the fear of losing their lives. The part in the quote where Rashad puts his hands up as a reflex shows us that he has most likely been trained at home to cooperate with the police especially since his dad is a police officer. Similar to Rashad the authors use the same technique to instead
When people think of someone in their family who provides for them many think of their mom or dad. Although, that is not always the case. Darry is the older brother and provider to Sodapop Curtis and Ponyboy Curtis in the book The Outsiders written by S.E. Hinton. In the article Philando Castile shooting: Dashcam video shows rapid event by Jay Croft. Croft explores the issue of police brutality. In the book “All American Boys” the author, Brendan Kiely and Jason Reynolds convey an important theme in this book because they bring attention to police brutality and shows the differences between the way Rashad and Quinn are treated in an extreme act of police brutality. “You think it would have been the same if the lady wasn't white, or if Rashad wasn't black.” pg (183). This quote shows that Rasahd wouldn't have gotten harmed if the officer didn't stereotype the situation completely.

In the book The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, how did three people's actions affect one person? Soda, Johnny, and Dally’s choices affect Ponyboy by staying calm, helping others, and making sure other people are okay. First, to make sure other people are okay, Ponyboy’s brother Soda decides to send Pony a letter whenever he is in Windrixville, because he wants to tell him how bad Soda and Darry feel and that he wants him to come home. “‘Hey Ponyboy’- he fumbled with a piece of paper in his back pocket-
He asserts that “Something happens to people in law enforcement...after years of police work, officers often can’t help but be influenced by the cynicism they feel.” He rationalizes but does not deny, the law enforcement’s aggressive actions that the people of color may have seen or experienced. This method of pathos not only diversifies but also fortifies his thesis that there is evidence of racial profiling; however, he once again give reason for their skepticism to execute his primary purpose. Overall, dedicating three of his four “hard truths” to justify the actions of the law enforcement is crucial to his argument as a whole because his audience may have portrayed them differently
All American Boys is a gripping and thought provoking book that explores issues of police brutality, racism, and social justice in America through the perspective of two teenagers Rashad Butler and Quinn Collins. Rashad is a sixteen year old african american who is brutally beaten by a white police officer while Quinn a white classmate of Rashad is a witness of the assault. The author premises are that polices should rethink and challenge themselves to understand that their taking the lives of innocent men and it shouldn’t be based on the color of their skin or even by the same excuse or lie that “he had a gun”. The author revisits the mind of his son by drawing back on the pervious chapter of black me understanding and being knowledgeable about what is happening around them, meaning that the system isn’t the sole system that sees blacks bodies as disposable and

There is a misunderstanding with how police deal with intense situations. The public don’t understand that we only have a split second to make a decision in an intense situation like this. The media uses negative news to attract more attention. People don’t get all the facts, they only know one side of the story. He gives the example of the incident
Motivation is the deciding force that guides a person on any journey. Every action or decision you make is consciously or subconsciously influenced by prior thoughts and events. These thoughts and events can create several different types of motivations in different people. Forgiveness is the action or process of forgiving or being forgiven. (Hawkins, 1994, P. 206) My personal understanding of the parable ‘The Prodigal Son” is that it portrays the importance of reasoning and forgiveness. The main characters in the parable are two sons and a betrayed father. The father remains constant throughout the parable, although he has being betrayed by his younger son.
