“She drove him crazy with her nagging about homework and taking responsibility and all that crap” It’s something a teenager could say, because their parent irritates a little. His mother only cares about him, because he’s sixteen he needs to take responsibilities, and go to school. Luckily Ishraqi changed a bit his view of life, she’s the eye opener for Max, that he should take anything for granted, because besides his dad left him, he still got a mother who cares about him, which Ishraqi doesn’t have. In the end we get to know a bit more about the sensitive Max, when Ishraqi is on her way out of the country, he wants her to stay, he wanted to do anything for her to stay, but she couldn’t. Alexsa tell Max to move on and he should take care of him, and his school, because he has the great opportunities he shouldn’t waste “Go home to your mother. Work hard. Take your exams, Ad know always how lucky you” – It’s like she saying that he should work hard for Ishraqi, just because she doesn’t have the opportunities anymore, he should stop either. The main theme of this story is don’t take anything for granted, and always remember how lucky you are. There are a lot of people who suffers more than you, and you will never realize how harsh it really

Max gets accused of murder, has a restraining order taken out against him, and almost gets killed. After this, he began to realize that lying can lead to fatal consequences. To start off my argument, Max lied to the police about Preston’s location when they were out camping together. Preston had asked Max if he would cover for him while Preston traveled to Vegas to meet a mysterious woman named Violet Cain. Max didn’t hesitate to say yes to help his best friend.
In the wake of brutality and oppression Max and Liesel have the ability to create beautiful things. Throughout the story we hear about the remarkable friendships that the power and beauty of words can create. Amidst the chaos and despair of the war Max and Liesel are able to create a beautiful friendship that rises above the brutality in their world. Showing that no matter what two people who share misfortune and lost are able to create a friendship. They give each others life a purpose Max needs Liesel to illuminate his world and to bring him the energy of youth.
Both these protagonists happen to be political refugees avoiding Nazi persecution: Liesel’s parents were Communists and Max is a Jew. Max and Liesel alike have recurring nightmares about the last time they saw their families and these help Max and Liesel link themselves in areas where no one would understand their pain due to the loss of their family. Unlike most relationships theirs is based on their similar past and personalities as well as unspoken understanding along with the trust for each other. These similarities form a strong bond between Max and Liesel and this makes “The Standover Man”, a book compiled by Max using pages from “Mein Kampf” important, as Max helps Liesel realize that the power of words can be used to delight as well as harm others. “The best standover man I’ve ever known is not a man at all...”, a line within “The Standover Man” implies that Max believes that Liesel and he need each other and this friendship is unique to both of
In lines 14-15, Dabydeen remarks how Max “used to dream about being in Canada,” demonstrating his now-smothered fantasies about the place he could once live. In parallel, the author includes mention of Max’s nostalgic dreaming of the island, “He pictured the faces of the fellas on the island,”(lines 53-55) alluding to the lingering theme of regretful sacrifices. Max internally argues, through his fantasizing, that he could’ve had a reasonably stable life, had he remained on the island. His complex situation is exposed through juxtaposition once more through the contrasting statement of how this weary protagonist is “prepared for hell” (line 6), despite being in search of an impending, “sweet heaven” (line 8). This illustrates the complexity of his sense of place; he once dreamed about inhabiting Canada, yet his search of personal satisfaction is incomplete— he awaits a sanctuary in the future.
Hitler took many things away from Max, including his parents. Max’s book The Standover Man was about a “bird” (man) that was always being told what to do. Max helps Liesel to understand how he was treated, and that he was afraid of loosing his life. However, Liesel helps Max to understand that he should not be afraid of “The Standover Man”.
- Liesel, knowing the outcome of running through a stream of Jews, wanted to find Max and see him for the last time before he would disappear for years. She wanted to see him and thank him for everything he 's done for her; the stories, the fun times they 've had. She willingly put herself in a bad situation because she loves him, and she knows that he loves her too. She knew that if Max saw her, it would make him the happiest
Max accepts Liesel’s child-like sense of entertainment. While Liesel loyally builds a snowman for Max. When the snowball scene turns out wrong, Liesel loyally tried to nurse him back to safety. Liesel had the courage to accept befriend Max and loyal enough to keep it a secret.
Even though people suffer, when it is noticed, others help them as much as
It was when Liesel came down, however, that Max found himself interested in life again.” (Page 250). From the day Max left the Hubermann household in fear of being found, Liesel made sure to look
Max and Liesel gain a very strong friendship until he must leave for the family’s safety. In the end, the Allied Powers bomb the city, leaving Liesel as the lone survivor, leaving Liesel to face an extremely difficult time. In the end, the narrator, Death, reunites her with Max. Liesel lives a wonderful life and passes peacefully. In the novel, The Book Thief, Zusak proves the satisfaction found in corruption and harmful choices
Jews were being put in Concentration camps, but because of his knowledge he goes into hiding at the home of the Huberman’s. The book describes him as an introvert because in the book it states, “He was the type of person who worked quietly away for very little reward. He kept to himself...”(Zusak 188). Max has positive solutions that he wants to fulfill in a negative way. We can can determine this because Zusak expressed in his writing, “Punches are thrown, the crowd
One by one they climbed into the ring and beat him down. They made him bleed. They let him suffer." (Zusak 254). Max is struggling to understand that he's a Jew, doesn't understand why people hate him and why people follow Hitler.
To keep his mind off of the gloom and depression, he writes books for her. he uses her as his inspiration, and wants to make sure that the Hubermann’s know how appreciative he is of them risking their lies for him. Most importantly, though, Liesel was Max’s link to the outside world. He would ask about the weather and the sky. As for Liesel, she made it her mission to take care of Max.
Max not only is in danger himself, but puts Liesel's whole family at risk. “Now I think we are friends, this girl and me. On her birthday it was she who gave a gift to me,”(Zusak Ch 12). Liesel gave Max the gift of friendship, and that meant a lot to Max. Liesel hugs Max as an act of pity, but Max sees it more than that.
