Have you ever met someone so cold hearted but deep down you knew they had a lot of feeling? There is one person only that can summarize this description and his name is Dally Winston. The character Dally from the Book “the Outsiders” is selfless because he is Helpful, Trustworthy, and Kind. The Book “The Outsiders” is a adventures story about a gang called the greasers. They Greasers throughout the book battle another group of kids called the Socs. Through the book there is heartache and adventure and you will always end up wanting more. As shown by when Johnny killed a soc, when Johnny and Ponyboy left to hide, and When Johnny himself died, This is when Dally showed signs of weakness that no one thought he had. First, Dally Winston is Helpful. In chapter 4 after Johnny killed the Socs because he was drowning ponyboy they both went to Dally for help. Dally ended up providing them with money and a gun to take care of themselves while they needed to hide. This shows that even though no one thought Dally had a heart he still took the time to take care of Johnny and Ponyboy when they needed it the most. …show more content…
In chapter 5 Dally stated “I told him I didn’t know where you were but he didn’t believe me”. This shows that only Dally knew were Johnny and Ponyboy were and even though Sodapop Ponyboys brother wanted to know so badly where Ponyboy was Dally kept the secret and didn’t let it out. This shows that even though Sodapop was Dally’s friend he still kept his secret for Johnny and Ponyboy to keep them
Dally is part of the gang in the the east side of greasers. He had found Johnny living with awful parents that always beat him up with no care. Dally had gave and showed him love. Johnny is also in the gang and he is like the youngest pet out of all of them. Nobody in the gang can’t live without him especially Dally, he overprotects Johnny.
Therefore dally and johnny have some similarities and huge amount of differences. Dally is a mean, aggressive, tough person. He has a record a mile long. He can’t do anything legal, so when he wants to go to the drive in everyone with him has to sneak in. He loves picking fights with people and loves to scare little kids.
Dally is tougher than I am. Why can I take it when Dally can’t? And then I knew. Johnny was the one thing Dally loved” (Hinton 152). This demonstrates loyalty and family because Dally loved Johnny, meaning when Johnny died Dally could not live without him.
At the beginning of the story, Dally is tough, cold, and mean. He was neglected as a child and left to his own accords where he was on the streets at a young age making him grow up fast. He got in gang fights, he's robbed people, robbed stores, concealed weapons, he was incarcerated, and just not a good person to be around. Ponyboy tells the reader this when he said, “He was tougher than the rest of us tougher colder meaner.” (pg10)
"I wanted to cry, but Greasers don't cry in front of strangers. Some of us never cry at all. Like Dally and Two-Bit and Tim Shepard--they forgot how at an early age." (Chapter 7, pg. 102). This quote comes from a novel by S.E Hinton called The Outsiders.
Dally is not strong mentally (when he couldn’t let Johnny go), he really does not do good deeds, and he does not care about any other people than only Johnny, and he’s rude to others and bad at using words. A quotation that supports my statement is, “What for? Get back in here before I beat your head in.” (p.90) This quotation supports my statement because Dally said this to Ponyboy when he hopped off the car and said to see what the deal is when he saw the old church on fire, it proves that Dally does not care about other stuff that does not involve him and that he’s rude to others and using
Johnny and Dally both live similar lives. Their parents don’t care about them, and they both know it. Without his parents care and attention, Dally ends up in jail at the age of ten, while Johnny gets beat up by his father, yelled at by his mother, or completely ignored altogether. He tells Ponyboy ““I walk in that house, and nobody says anything.
Dallas/Dally Winston has a very subtle way of expressing how he changes over the course of the novel, The Outsiders. At first impression, he seems rude, bad-mannered, and mean. He seems to not care for anything at all in the world. But later on, as you get to know the greasers, a reckless group of boys that stick together no matter what, Dally gets to learn how to care and how not to keep emotions bottled up. Dally grew up on the wild side of New York.
Love - an intense feeling of deep affection. Love is an emotion shown in many romantic or family relationships as well as friendships. Love is shown frequently throughout the entirety of the book The Outsiders. For example, Dally is an extremely aggressive and audacious person, but he also shows immense love towards Johnny. Sodapop is a fun-loving, carefree high-school dropout, but he is understanding and shows love to both of his brothers by seeing both sides of an argument.
Different - not alike in character or quality; distinct in nature; dissimilar. The character, Ponyboy, from The Outsiders, is different because of going into the church and those saving little kids, another reason is at first he didn’t believe that Johnny died and he didn’t go crazy like Dally, and he went with Randy to talk about the rumble with no blade or weapon. Ponyboy is a 14 year old Greaser (a gang with not much money), they smoke weed, and have long hair. They are teenagers that either don’t have parents or their parents just don’t care about them.
Darry, Soda, and Pony are all waiting in the hospital to hear news of Dally and Johnny. They are bombarded with reporters, and Darry finally gets them to be left alone because Pony wasn 't’ feeling well. Pony takes a nap on Darry’s lap, and then the doctor finally came with news of Johnny and Dally. Dally would be good to go in a few days after his burns are taken care of, meanwhile Johnny is in critical condition, with not a great chance of making it out of there. On the way home, Pony falls asleep in the car and end up sleeping until the morning when Two-bit and Steve came over.
Dally A rock-hard hood who never backs down from any challenge. Dally is a character in the book “Outsiders” by S.E. Hinton. The Outsiders is a book where a ragtag group of greasers band together and overcome victories, tragedies, and above all, build an even stronger bond of brotherhood. This story begins in the town of Tulsa, Oklahoma, where Ponyboy(our main character) is walking home from the movies and gets ambushed by a large group of Socs(Sociables-the “popular/rich” clique).
In the novel, the Outsiders, S.E Hinton portrays all characters except of Dally with very straightforward personalities because, as the book ends, the readers are able to see the unexpected. Dally’s tough and fearless personality appeared more like heroic and emotional as we conclude the novel. Besides, we readers we’d always pictured Dally like any other hoodlum but as we see him face real-life situations and his gestures towards them, we are genuinely taken away by his new character. We start to realize, how all this while it was Dally’s life experience that seemed to have chosen the path for him, which is why the person inside of him never had the chance.
This shows how he gained back his self-confidence and his ability to stand up for himself. Johnny finally found his acceptance from Dally when Dally said, “We’re all so proud of you” (148). When Dally said that Ponyboy noticed Johnny’s eyes glowing, “Dally was proud of him... That was all he ever wanted” (148). In the letter he wrote to Ponyboy, “It’s worth saving those kids...
(1.48) After Johnny died, Dally makes an enormous sacrifice that took away his life. He loved Johnny so much that he couldn't take the fact he was gone. Dally was known to be the most cold-blooded member of the gang but after Johnny's death, he was the one who showed the most affection. Dally wouldn’t have been shot if he didn’t love Johnny so much, and sacrificed himself.
