“Two people who are true friends are like two bodies with one soul,” –Chaim Potok. In The Chosen by Chaim Potok, two boys by the name of Danny Reuven, mature and grow through the story. Without a doubt, these two characters for destined to find each other. They grew up in the same neighborhood without even knowing. Unfortunately, an incident occurred, although this terrible thing turns into a wonderful one. These two boys start as rivals at their local softball game. Crazily, the game ends up with Danny almost hitting Reuven with the ball and almost blinding him causing him to go to the hospital. Throughout the novel, we see Danny and Reuven’s relationship bloom and developed into a long-lasting bond. Reuven and Danny portray the significance of a long-lasting friendship through their deep bond and relying on one another, sticking together through hard times, and making strong impacts on each other. …show more content…

From the beginning, they act like they have known each other since birth. “For the first fifteen years of our lives, Danny and I lived within five blocks of each other’s existence,” (11). These two boys eventually study together and basically take on life together. Later in the novel, Reuven’s father suffers from a heart attack. Denny steps in and takes charge letting Reuven stay with him in his time of need. Danny loves on him and assures all be good.
