Joe Rantz’s character arc helps him develop over the course of The Boys in the Boat by Daniel James Brown. Towards the beginning of the book, Joe is very independent and goal oriented. After being abandoned by his dad for the second time 15 year old Joe knew that to be able to feed himself he would need to take every opportunity he could to stay ahead of The Great Depression. “In all all this Joe grew continually stronger and ever more self reliant. Through it all he stayed in school and earned good grades” (Brown 62).
I am waiting in my car for the rest of my team to arrive to training and I 'm scrolling through my phone 's camera roll. I come across a photo of my dad 's surfboat team all standing proudly, first place, on the podium. The 2017 Surf lifesaving nationals is such a vivid memory for me and I remember this weekend well… An abrupt piercing stream of light breaks on my face. Baffled by its brightness I grunt and moan for it to stop. It is my dad.
I have not only been a member of the varsity golf team for three years, but also have received the most valuable player or coach’s award every year. I have run for office in my class government twice and done the same in the National Honor Society. I announce the Boys Varsity Lacrosse Game’s at my high school. Shortly after taking a few deep breaths, I pronounce every starter’s unique name in front of many eager spectators. In middle school, I would have listened to the announcer and thought about what it would be like to play their part.
Louie Zamperini was a rebellious and courageous man throughout the years of his life. He was a olympic runner and came in first for fastest time in high school and later went the olympics to race against other cities. He was in a POW camp for 2 years and was beaten by a mean man named Mutsuhiro Watanabe. And Louie Zamperini was born in Olean New York and later moved to Torrance California. Louie Zamperini shows two characteristic traits of rebellious and courageous throughout the book Laura Hillenbrand’s Unbroken.
Laura Hillenbrand’s novel Unbroken, a biography about the thrilling life of Louis Zamperini, and now a major motion picture, continues to be read in high schools all over the country. It contains many dynamic characters, symbols, and themes. Out of all the great choices, this research paper focuses on the character changes of Francis McNamara, the symbolic nature of the sharks, and the theme of survival and resilience. Francis McNamara, the tail gunner of the B-24 nicknamed “Green Hornet”, was one of the three survivors of the plane crash in the Pacific Ocean. Mac after the first night on the water, panicked and ate all of the rations meant to feed the man until possible rescue (Hillenbrand, page number).
Then in 2012 I went and stayed in the states for 6 months. I practiced at a club there and then had to move back to Egypt in December of that year. Then in the fall of 2013 again something amazing happened: I got a gold medal. As my coach, that was a supervisor once said "the gold medal will hang in my chest at nationals" and here I was with a gold medal on my chest. More to that, that same gold medal got me in the national team that went to the junior African championship in which I did what I consider my biggest achievement in swimming so far.
Baker who had been working had provided a successor to his position as the chief engineer which is Matt Rennalls. On the other hand, Rennals is a young engineer who represents the new generation of patriotic, well-educated Barracania’s professionals. He has over 4 year experience as a student at the University of London. So, it will make him sensitive to racial, political, and equality issues involving relations between his culture and western influence. Actually, the last meeting between two case characters ended up in a disaster.
He was born two months premature under the light of Halley’s Comet, a sign of good things to come and was sickly for the first ten years of his life. Soon after his birth, his father decided to move to the river town of Hannibal, Missouri where Mark Twain spent much of his childhood. While living in Hannibal, Twain became infatuated with the riverboats that came through and the men who piloted them. Though this town was small and bleak and he suffered many hardships here, he always remembered it with fondness in his writings; “Perhaps it was the romantic visionary in him that caused Clemens to recall his youth in Hannibal with such fondness”(Mark Twain). Of these hardships probably the greatest for him would have been the loss of his father at age twelve which caused him to have to drop out
However, as only I have comprehended that it is the 22nd of June my easy joyful mood has turned into rather serious and sad. It was the same bright summer day 75 years ago. Great honour to selfless people who fought against fascism and gave us the chance to appear in this world! Speaking of my family, my granny Lidia (my father’s mother) had seven younger brothers, and five from them fallen fighting in the Red Army protecting the motherland during the Second Patriotic War. Granny’s first husband was a village teacher, so he went to the war in the first rows.
