I believe that the theme is that even though you are not the brightest you can still do great things. “Am I a troubled kid? Yeah. you could say that”(Riordan 1). On this page he said that he is troubled kid. Then Zeus said “You have done me a service, boy. Few heroes could have accomplished as much.”(Riordan 343). Percy thought that he was a troubled kid but then it turns out that he can still do a great thing like do something that few could ever do.
The series before this was called Percy Jackson & the Olympians, and he was the main focus. I feel like during this whole series I’m not getting Percy. By that I mean they don’t really talk about his emotions besides when it’s about Annabeth. I understand he’s in love but I don’t think that means love is the only emotion he feels. In this book and prior ones in this series Percy doesn’t share a lot about how he’s feeling during fights which is unusual because in the previous series he did that a lot. I was used to knowing what was going through his head. Even though he is considered one of the or the most powerful characters it’s hard to believe he is as loved as he once was
There was a time when he was very confused on what he was capable of doing. For example, in chapter 1 page 9 the text states, “I don’t remember touching her but the next thing I knew, Nancy was sitting on her butt in the fountain screaming,”Percy pushed me!”” It seems that Percy’s powers responded to his actions as he somehow pushed Nancy Bobofit into the water. Another example is when Percy made made it to camp half blood (chapter 5, Riordan) , Percy was being spoon fed Ambrosia nectar which what percy said tastes like,”It was chocolate chip cookies. Liquid cookies.” the text states (page 60 chapter 5, Riordan). Percy didn’t realize that the Ambrosia nectar was very much harmful to a regular human, and as we know if that was Percy’s turning point to know that Percy was special. And last, but not least Percy was then claimed by his father. In the end of chapter 8 after playing a game of capture the flag,Percy was claimed as son of Poseidon. This was an honor for Percy which brought a great honor into Percy’s life. But, it also brought more danger into into Percy’s life like being attacked by many monsters including people like the kindly
Percy’s experiences align with the Hero’s Journey because of these three reasons. First, separation happens to Percy for a while. I know this because in the book it says that he has ADHD and dyslexia so that is what makes him separated from the rest of society. Then, the call to adventure happens. I know this because there is a danger that starts them on their journey and the danger is the monsters that come for them. Finally, the entering the unknown happens. I know this because when he goes to camp half-blood there is the constant threat of danger. Also his strength and courage is tested time and time again. In conclusion, percy’s experiences align with the Hero’s
How often are you persevere? In the book, The Lightning Thief, Percy Jackson shows marvelous acts of perseverance. Percy is a teenager, freshman, and attends Yancy Academy. He is diagnosed with dyslexia, ADHD, and ADD. Now, many people would feel bad for him, and think that he is very peaked. However, he is blessed to have these conditions. His ADHD and ADD help him stay hyperactive in wherever he is. This book was based on Greek Mythology, and there were many wars at that time. Percy is falsely accused for stealing a lightning bolt, and wants to prove that he didn't.
Percy Jackson is a great hero who is brave because he goes on horrific trips to help people in danger. Percy Jackson goes to The Sea of Monsters to help save his friend Grover who is being held by a Cyclops named Polyphemus. Polyphemus wants Grover to marry him because he thinks Grover is a girl Cyclops. Grover needs help, so he asked the Cyclops what would happen if people came for him. One example of Percy traveling and
Percy lived in a world with two different realities of moral and immoral. Up until Percy was 12 years old, he knew the world as we know it, but then one summer he was introduced into a new world of gods and Greek mythology. Prendrick had a hard time differentiating between the human and animal characteristics of the beast folk. When he returns to civilized society he begins to see the people as part animal. He is living in the reality of when he was on the island and in actual society. When you’ve lived between two realities they can began to intertwine and get mixed up.
Percy Jackson, the main character in The Lightning Thief ,is following the path of the hero in “Hero’s journey” On Percy’s life a teacher has become his mentor. In the Lightning Thief Percy says “But Mr.Brunner expected me to be as good as everybody else, despite the fact that I have dyslexia and attention deficit disorder and I had never made above a C- in my life” In this quote, percy expresses his feelings on how he is frustrated with himself and his teacher. In hero's journey a quote shows about mentors, “Heroes are almost started on their journey by a character who has mastered the laws of the outside world and come back to bestow this wisdom upon them.” That is how The Lightning Thief is compared to hero's journey.
Percy Jackson is a 12 year old dyslexic boy, who is studying at Yancy Academy. He is living with his mother Sally Jackson and stepfather Gabe Ugliano or “smelly gabe” he called. He is a troubled dyslexic boy that always got expelled in every school he was enrolled but when he reached 6th grade at Yancy Academy, unnatural things started to happen.
He has developed his abilities and found friends that he can depend on. The life he knew is no longer and he is fine with that. Percy realizes that he has finally found “home” at Camp Half-Blood. He returns to his Mom, who Hades freed after Percy returned his Helm to him. While Percy is glad to see his Mom, he knows that he can never go back to being an “ordinary” kid. A whole new world has been opened for Percy. He now has options and is more confident. He has learned to be a warrior and that he can solve his problems. Percy took on a task that would unbeknownst to him, make him a hero. He had set out on a journey unaware of the person he would become and unaware at how he would change the
Percy Jackson THe LIghtning Thief book... or movie? He is a hero, a demigod. Percy is a 12 year old boy the son of Posidon. He lived with his mother Sally, and his stinky stepfather Gabe. But that all changes when he gets to Camp Half-Blood. The movie does not accurately portray novel because there were to many substantial dissimilarities. Here are a few of the most tremendous reasons.
In the novel Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief By Rick Riordan, the main character is very caring and persistent. Percy Jackson is a 12-year-old boy and finds out that he is half human, half god. On page 49, the author writes about a conversation between Percy and his mother: “‘Mom, you’re coming too,’ ... ‘He doesn’t want us... he wants you. Besides, I can’t cross the property line.’ … ‘We’re going together. Come on, Mom.’” Percy and his mom are being chased by a giant monster and they are trying to get to a safe place, but this safe place is only for kids that are demigods, people like Percy. Percy’s mom is telling Percy to go by himself, but he won’t leave her. This shows that he cares for his mom and doesn’t want to
Have you ever wondered what inspired or motivated Rick Riordan to write Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief? The answer is Greek mythology. A lot of things nowadays are based off Greek mythology. Hades, the ferryman Charon, and the mythical creature Cerberus are all based off this. Actually, most monsters and creatures from Percy Jackson are somehow based on Greek mythology. Even though they are based on it, they are still very different.
Percy 's birth into his Hero Cycle occurs when he crosses into Camp Half Blood for the very first time. His subsequent call to adventure is when he consults with the Oracle. During his visit to the Oracle, Percy learns what he must do in order to be successful on his quest. Chiron, also known as Mr. Brunner, assists Percy in his initial preparation for his quest. He makes sure Percy, Annabeth, and Grover all have the things they need in order to be somewhat prepared for what lay ahead for them. Finally, Percy crosses the threshold when he leaves Camp Half Blood and embarks on the journey West, to find Zeus ' master bolt.
Again, Percy’s ability to communicate and coordinate a team are tested, but unlike the encounter with the furies, he is successful this time. Percy’s growth is especially clear when he acknowledges Annabeth’s successful calculations, saying “If we’d have jumped when I thought we should’ve, we would’ve crashed”, admitting that Annabeth saved their lives (240). Percy communicates well, delegating responsibilities— “‘Get into that booth! Find the ‘on’ switch’” he yells to Grover, “‘Unfasten your seatbelt’” he yells to Annabeth—to guide the group. The test of the waterpark displays Percy’s confident leadership abilities as he coordinates the
