What if your parents actions affected your future? Would you react or would you be happy with your parents actions(parenting)? Whether you answered yes or no to either of the questions, I strongly believe that parents choices affect their kids. In “The Monkey’s Paw” on page 4, it states Mr. White made a wish for 200 pounds(Dollars). To pay the mortgage. Now lets remember that on page 3 Mr. Morris said “I'm warning you,you won't like the consequences.” And later on that day something tragic happened! On page 5, Mr. And Mrs. White got the news that their son died. Now we’ve all made mistakes or have done something we regret. Now that Mr. and Mrs. White's son Herbert is dead everyone is wondering what's gonna happen? Mrs. White did what she …show more content…
The author in the story that the mom and dad made him eat isolated. Meaning away from the family! Now that's ignorant but personally, I can relate to this. My great grandpa when he eats sometimes his dentures will fall out his mouth and I would hate when he ate at the table! So I would go eat in the living room or on the back balcony. But, I soon realised that he is getting old and can’t help that he is getting old. So eventually I did the right thing and went back in there and ate in the dining room with family. I felt better that I know he knew why I left and when I came back he looked confused. I just knew he knew why I came back. Although I made the right decision, the grandson in the “grandpa” story planned to treat his parents how they treated his grandpa!(Again, parents actions will affect their kids!) The parents, didn't like the sound of that so they changed their ways and let the grandpa sit with the family. That caused the son(grandson to change too!) Everything was back to normal now and every one was being fair to one another. As I’ve been saying the whole time “Parents actions will affect their kids!” I think I get my motivation from my mom. And im also called the “momma bear: around my friends because I tell them what not to do and I like watch things and make sure everyone is safe. My mom’s caring, respectful and positive role model traits affected on me! As you’ve read and can probably tell I strongly believe that “Parents actions affect their
In "The Old Grandfather and His Little Grandson," It teaches readers about how the elderly feel towards their family. He and his grandson are really alike. They have trouble going to the bathroom; they are clumsy;
The cause-and-effect relationship in “The Monkeys Paw” is an amazing example as to how much an occurrence can affect the story line and the suspense within it. In the story the mother and father are one of the major reasons why the suspense is there, because they made wishes in the story the paw (which is also a cause of the suspense) had
“What is beneath my skin. Inside my bones?” (Tan 40). This is a familiarly asked question by many Asian immigrants, and many find it difficult to answer. The rich historical culture of Asian assimilation is a complex and intriguing subject.
Furthermore, when asked if his wishes came true, he replied, “I did”. ( 9). This started all sorts of ideas and possibilities in the Whites’ minds, thinking of how with the paw they can get all they ever wanted. Knowing what happens to the family later in the story, if we think about it, if Sergeant-Major Morris had never told the story behind the paw or that it worked they would have never wanted it. In short, if Sergeant-Major Morris
Just from reading this much, the parenting style in this book is ridiculous and the kids made the right choices as they got older to be successful. RoseMary
That creates suspense because the reader wants to know why he wished for death. It foreshadows that the paw brings bad luck. Sergeant Major Morris also tells the Whites “…don’t blame me for what happens” (Jacobs 91). It foreshadows that something very bad is going to happen. Herbert foreshadows his death by saying the quote “Well I don’t see the money…and I bet I never shall”(134-135 Jacobs).
Thesis: In The Monkey's Paw by W.W Jacobs, the realistic essence of the monkey's paw made it fundamentally creepy. Point 1: The monkey's paw is a symbol for inclination for greed, exposing our superior wants as people, even the most humble. Point 2: Consequences for the actions of those using the paw develops the image of regret and fear. Point 3:
With Morris’s face whitening, it tacitly tells the audience that something terrifying happened when Morris made his wishes. This foreshadows that something dreadful will happen once the Whites make their wishes. Question 2: Compare Mr. White’s feelings about the monkey’s paw when he makes the first wish, second wish, and third wish. How does his attitude change?
In W. W. Jacobs’ short story, “The Monkey’s Paw,” the White family’s innocent want for a better life is challenged when a magical talisman plagues their family through its wishes. When faced with death, humans have different ways of dealing with the rollercoaster of feelings that accompanies it. The family has to overcome grief, disappointment, and anger as they live their lives without their son. Through these emotions, the characters are being taught not to act foolishly, but they never learn. Through foreshadowing and situational irony, the story “The Monkey’s Paw” conveys the theme of how innocent intentions can have terrible repercussions.
Becoming a parent is a task that cannot be taken lightly. It is a task filled with frustration, responsibilities and dedication, but is also filled with joy and satisfaction. From children learning how to behave to them going out with friends, rules, standards and expectations are set mostly by their parents. Parents make most of their children’s decision in the first couple of years from behalf from what they eat for breakfast from setting their curfew as they get older. As children began grow, they began to make their own choices and learn to deal with the consequence of their mistakes.
Two stories and two magical wishes. The Monkey’s Paw and the Story of an Hour share several similarities throughout the passage. In the beginning of each passage, the author creates a sense of mystery and curiosity for the readers. As each passage reveals the characters in the story, the reader begins to relate the characters role from each story and how they act towards the conflict in the text. These different events, conflicts, or plot in both stories connect with death and wishes.
The conflict in the story is not only the monkey’s paw but was somewhat Mr. White’s attitude. If he never was that greedy the story would have changed he would have agreed with Morris and burned the monkey’s paw but he didn’t want to do that creating the plot. Any change in the plot could have/ would have altered the course of the story but also altering the theme. In “The Monkey’s Paw,” the downfall of the White family is when they receive the two hundred pounds as a compensation for the son’s death which was actually caused by messing with fate.
To start off, The Old Grandfather and His Little Grandson is a sad folk tale. The main character is a grandfather who is mistreated by his son and daughter-in-law. He is made to eat in a corner, by the stove, and out of a wooden bowl. The grandson was playing and building a wooden dish for his parents to eat out of when they grow up. “The young peasant and his wife looked at each other, and tears filled their eyes.
To have a great story, it has to make use of literary elements to give detail and depth to a story. Stories can leave a feeling or thought that can make the reader think about what they just read. Making use of literary elements can help give hints to what the story is gonna be about or what is going to happen in the future. The four stories that our class read use these two elements and a few of the stories can almost tell the entire story just in the first two pages. Two of the most well used literary elements is symbolism and foreshadowing.
Have you ever watched a suspenseful movie about magic? Have you ever wished you had your own genie that would grant you three wishes? However, the three wishes aren 't exactly what you wished for? Well in the story the Monkey’s Paw that pattern seems to be happening a lot.
