In The Taker by J. M. Steele, Carly Biels is a teenager who has a dream to ace the SAT without help of the Taker. The Taker is an anonymous person who goes from person to person, asking them if they want him to take the SAT for them. All she wants in life is for her family and boyfriend, Brad, to be happy for her. All she needs to do is bomb the high school SAT. However when she gets her scores back from the practice SAT, she realizes she needs to up her game. After she found out her scores, she got a text from the Taker he said he can help her. As a result, her parents, friends, and teachers recommend she should be tutored by the smartest but not popular kid in school, Ronald Gross. In the end, Carly decides to not use the Taker but use Ronald.

From all the hype about families lately, one might think they are a fairly new thing.” This quote from The All Too Human gods, written by Rebecca Christian and Linda Mazunik, an elucidative piece about the Greek and roman gods being a dysfunctional family shows that even the best of people can be imperfect. The theme in this expository piece is that no one is perfect. The tone in this expository piece affects the theme because it shows the author's purpose, demonstrates the author’s attitude, and helps us understand the mood of the story.

When Paul Fisher and his family move to Tangerine County, Florida from Houston, Texas. His life falls apart. He discovers the lies he’s been living, about his family and why his is vision impaired. The book Tangerine by Edward Bloor brings you into the life of Paul Fisher, a 12 year old boy who is adapting to new life in Tangerine County, Florida. In Tangerine, Edward Bloor crafts each character to be either static or dynamic. Each character is able to contribute to the story in many different ways, emotionally and physically. Even the quietest characters in the book, such as Theresa Cruz build up the story. Dynamic characters like Paul’s Mom add and make the story more enjoyable.

In the novel, East of Eden by John Steinbeck, rhetorical devices are used to illustrate the characters throughout the book to be either be good or evil by the usage of diction, connotation and denotation as well as other rhetorical devices. By using rhetorical devices it allows the audience to gain a better deeper comprehension of the book. The rhetorical devices allow Steinbeck to describe the characteristics of each character to define them as either good or evil which allows the reader to analyze the parallels between one another. In addition, rhetorical devices for example metaphor, tone, diction, simile, imagery, analogy, allegory, and paradox contribute to the author’s style which creates an image for readers to comprehend. Steinbeck uses word choice, tone, anaphora to highlight the juxtaposition between Cathy Ames and Abra Bacon to illustrate how evil and goodness change the perspective about their inherent point.

In the 1977 novel, Song of Solomon by Toni Morrison. Morrison highlights the running theme of love. The theme of love is present in every relationship in the novel and is defined different from character to character. The women display love as a way of obsession whether it is over their spouses or over materialistic possessions. The men, however; define it differently, many are distant and secluded when it comes to expressing affection and love. This underlying theme significantly contributes to the overall storyline providing a unique characterization to each character, allowing the reader to really experience the character’s emotional development through the novel. By putting a character in certain situations and creating an according reaction, a reader may be able to empathize or be persuaded to think a certain way. There are many ways an author can convey the message of any story. Elements such as the Plot, Conflict, Character/Characterization, Setting, Symbolism, Narration, and Imagery are used in these ways. For example, in the In the story "Harrison Bergeron", the author Kurt Vonnegut uses the characterization, and the conflict to communicate the message to the reader that Uniformity and strict laws lead to a loss of personal freedom and individuality.

Before we look at the different Social/Psychological Determinants of Health it is important firstly to define what a social determinant of health is. According to the World Health Organization (2017) “The social determinants of health are the conditions in which people are born, grow, live, work and age.” These conditions are as a result of a wide range of factors that are ultimately governed by the way in which money, power and specific resources are shared at different levels including those at global, national and local levels. We have all been a part of and will experience different social determinants of health throughout our lives but it is the standard at which we experience these determinants that will ultimately lead onto them affecting our health or ultimately leaving us unaffected.

A book and a movie can be both the same and different. In The Outsiders there are many similarities and differences with the book and movie. They were the same because Johnny kills a man, they cut their, there was the movie scene, and Johnny and Ponyboy went to the church. Some of the differences is when Darry slaps Ponyboy but in the movie he pushes him, Johnny doesn't bring a lot of food in the book but does in the movie he does, when Johnny killed the man it was more described but it wasn't in the movie, and Johnny says he wants to kill himself in the movie. Many times, Maurier uses characterization to allow the reader to better understand the characters in the story. For example, when the birds begin to come down the chimney and she writes, “He got sticks and paper and put them on the embers, then reached for the can of paraffin,” (74) the reader is able to learn about Nat. You may discover that Nat is a very witty and intelligent man as he knows that the smoke will keep the birds from entering and kill any birds that are already in the chimney. Next, Nat says, “I’ve got to go get food. I’ve got to go to the farm to find food,” (78). The reader quickly learns that Nat is very resourceful as he knows to go get food from the farm while it is daylight and the birds will not attack. Maurier uses characterization to not only describe Nat, but many other characters throughout the story.

Characterization is a big part of the overall meaning of the story which is that survival is of those who are smart, cunning, and can adapt to their environment. The protagonist Rainsford is at a constant battle with the antagonist General Zaroff. Throughout the entire short story they both have similar minds sets and then farther along the main character 's mind set develops into something more. The reader can almost sense a self centeredness, and that he believes that there are only two type of people in this world, “the hunters and the huntees”, and he believes that he is the hunter. The personalities of the the protagonist and antagonist play an instrumental role in the overall meaning of the story. Theme also plays a role in the overall meaning of the story.

Every novel or stories gives a fundamental ideas or lesson for the readers. Most of the lesson are informative and it brings a changes to the readers mind. There will be a universal of an ideas explored in a literature and readers can abstract numerous themes depending on each individual. Similarly, in the novel “the old man and the sea” Hemingway depicted several themes related to nature, people and so on. However determination can also be one of the theme for the readers because the old man, Santiago didn’t gave up fishing even if he had cramp but he took this as an encouragement in his old age. His strength of mind is still strong like his youth. Therefore this essay will emphasize on the old man’s struggle against marlin, battle of willingness and his bravery which supports the theme determination.
