Introduction:
Different socio economic structure plays a compelling role to the genesis of various kind of work culture in India. Different organized and unorganized sectors are involved in various work fields to meet with the country’s specification. The workers from organized sectors comprise only 7% of the total workforce of India while the rest (93%) belongs to the unorganized sectors (Ratnam, 2006)1. Amongst all of the organized work sectors in India coal India comprises maximum no of workforce who are involved in daily coal production. Its aims are to improve efficiency, safety and operators well-being including ultimate productivity. Ergonomics deals with the betterment of the work and work procedure and it helps to minimizing the risk factors evaluated at the workplaces. Ergonomics contains all aspects of job like physical stresses and environmental factors which effect the worker’s health and comfort. Daily engagement of various kinds of environmental and occupational stressors makes them very potent to face both physiological and occupational stress.
Description of Mines:
Study has been conducted in two different mines of Coal India Limited in West Bengal and Jharkhand, India. As the colliery is almost spread all over the country, there are different climatic zone also. Two mines are varied with each other by means of their depth, geology, strata and internal mine environment. Both the mines have considered under the study has been selected from two different climatic zone. Into the case of first mine (Mine A) under the subsidiary ECL (Eastern Coalfields Limited) in West Bengal and another one (Mine B) from CCL(Central Coalfields Limited) in Jharkhand.
Mine A has a depth of 150 m with having no man riding facilities that means workers has to go down to the face by walk only.This is a degree II gassiness mine (the mine which produces 1 m3 of inflammable gas per ton of coal produced) …show more content…
