Odysseus from The Odyssey is similar to Marcos Urgurte, a teenager who saved somebody from a burning building, in heroic acts; They are both brave and selfless.
Odysseus displays heroic traits, such as bravery, when dealing with the suitors. Odysseus is talking to one of them when the abhorrent suitor says, “How do you think you shuffle off and get away after that imprudence?” (Kinsella 1028). Even though Odysseus is in the presence of multiple burly people who do not like him, he still will talk back to the point it upsets the suitors. If he was not brave, he would not do that. Odysseus is not only brave but selfless too. After Odysseus bravely deals with the suitors, a bystander says, “a hunter owned him--but the man is dead…when lord Odysseus left him…you’d see him swift and strong” (Kinsella 1028). While the act of Odysseus ascending the people trying to steal his wife and kingdom is controversial, it is kind and unselfish nonetheless. Odysseus has morals. He knew he had to kill the suitors for his wife and Ithaca’s sake. If he did not

Urgurte, while doing his homework, heard screams, then went to investigate; then he was able to go down a ladder so he could break through a screen and then force open a window and carry the scared child to safety (Patterson). Going into a burning building is not easy, even human instinct was telling him to run from danger, not towards it; but Urgurte was able to fight his instincts and be extremely brave. Urgurte also displays selflessness. He “was doing homework when he heard screams,” (Patterson). It would be so easy to ignore somebody in distress and continue doing anything else; Urgurte had different plans. He immediately stopped the important thing he was doing to go save that young boy. The fact that Urgurte would drop whatever he was doing to go try and help somebody he does not even know illustrates how noble he
As the Webster Dictionary says a hero is a person admired for great deeds, courage or fine qualities. Odysseus was a hero modeling all three of those examples. The King showed many qualities of a hero when Odysseus volunteered to fight in the battle of Troy, when Odysseus helps the men escape the cyclops, and when Odysseus keeps all emotions together after watching some of the sailors get eaten by the monster Scylla. Odysseus shows qualities of a hero when the king of Ithaca offers to go fight in the battle of Troy. Odysseus fights for Ithaca in the battle of Troy voluntarily.
Odysseus shows characteristics of bravery, kindness, and intelligence throughout his adventure. Odysseus’ representation of bravery allows him to put other safety and well being before his own, and he doesn’t let fear hold him back from accomplishing great deeds. At one point in his adventures, he passes
When Odysseus came back home all the suitors were in the middle of trail and were still competing against each other. Odysseus being dramatic as he is, dressed up as a poor old man and faked to be someone else. He then grabbed the bow looking over it and soon after revealed who he was to all the men in the room. All the men were shook and tried to reason with Odysseus on why they shouldn’t be killed, but despite their pardons Odysseus kills all of them with no good heart as described in page 960, “He aimed and shot, and every shot brought down one of his buddling enemies.” A good hero would not have killed all the men just because they tried to marry his wife, but would forget about it and let them leave without being
In 'The Odyssey' an epic poem written by Homer, a greek poet, it tells the tale of how the King of Ithaca, Odysseus, goes on an eventful adventure that costs him 20 years and all of his men. In this epic poem Odysseus demonstrates many strengths and weaknesses. Odysseus' strengths are put to use very well and show how smart he can be. The suitors were very rude to Odysseus, in general, Antinous, they had no respect for him. While Odysseus is talking, Antinous says to him “enough Eat and be quiet where you are, or shamble elsewhere, unless you want these lads to stop your mouth, pulling you by the heels, or hands and feet, till your back is peeling.” (l.1248-1251). Odysseus was attended lowly, like an animal, and the suitors did not attempt to help or stand up for him. They just left him to be looked down upon.
Menelaos also praises Odysseus and says how “no one of the achaeans labored as much as Odysseus labored” (4.106-110). This shows that Odysseus did everything in order to make sure they are victorious. Furthermore, this shows that Odysseus is brave as he did this for others and not himself , he put others lives before his.

Naturally, he has much to be proud of: his sexy and loyal wife, his bravery, and his victorious battles from the Trojan War and beyond. However, his arrogance creates a weakness in his character that negatively impacts himself and the people around him. Starting from the middle of the mountain, Odysseus’s new transformation will allow him to soar to the top with eagle
The main character Odysseus in the Odyssey written by Homer is generally thought to be a great hero; however, he shows more traits of a quite flawed character on closer inspection. Around the beginning of Odysseus’ journey home after the war, Odysseus decides to take a detour to the home of a cyclops deciding to not listen to his men’s suggestions to leave while they still could; consequently, it does not end well: “Ah, how sound that was, Yet I refused. I wished to see the caveman, what he had to offer no pretty sight it turned out, for my friend” (9.130-132). This thought by Odysseus shows that he realized his decision to go to the mysterious island wasn’t the most rational one and that his men’s pleas to leave were the better option, but he decides to be stubborn and place his curiosity before his men’s safety resulting in a non-heroic
