The story of Charlie is a fantastic one. Interesting, heartwarming, and tragic all at the same time. The author does a great job incorporating the concept of maintaining your identity into the short story about a First Nations boy and his escape from residential school. Based on my understanding of identity, I strongly feel that the author was indeed trying to relay a message in regards to the importance of knowing who you are and holding on to that. What leads me to confidently believe that identity is the message is are Charlie’s roots, daydreams, and also his death. With that being said I will further elaborate on my thoughts.
