Are Charter Schools better than Public Schools? That is a question being asked around America today. It is said that most Charter Schools have better learning environments and gives individual students more opportunities than Public Schools. Why is a Charter School better? Is it really a better learning environment? Is a Charter School system better than the Public School system?
Across America it has been found that Charter schools don’t perform better or worse on standardized test than regular public schools. Only 17% of Charter Schools outperform public schools found by Center for Research on Education Outcomes (CREDO)at Stanford University in 2009 .It has also been found that in certain areas Charter Schools are doing better than Public Schools. Caroline Hoxby and by the authors of the CREDO found that Charter Schools in New York were outperforming Public Schools in the area.A 2009 study by The RAND Corporation that in Chicago and Texas Charter Middle Schools vs Public Middle Schools were falling short in both reading (Chicago) and reading/math (Texas). Charter School teachers receive between 10 to 15 percent less than Public School teacher.Charter Schools have more demanding hours which call for 60-80 hours a week, which means workdays are around 16 hours long.
